 UT Information Security Notice

Information Security Office has been receiving an increased number of fake job postings recently. These normally are emails offering a job to run errands or other small tasks. In return you will receive $300 or more a week to only work a small amount of hours. They also normally list a Gmail, AOL, or some other public free email address to contact them with some personal info such as your Name/DOB/Address/Phone Number. Some have asked for a resume and others have not. They will then start by asking for your banking info for direct deposit or give you a check to deposit. This is a scam and they are trying to take your money with the info they receive.

Some items to look out for:
  • If it’s too good to be true, it probably is. Offering large amounts of money for very little work.
  • The email address that the email is from is different than the one they want you to reply back to.
  • The employer/scammer is out of town all of the time.
  • Verify the business they say they work for. Most are not real.
  • Anything that says they received your name from Career Services should also be considered fake. Career Services does not give out your information.
If you have any questions about a job or need help you can  contact UT Career Services at 419-530-4341 or celcs@utoledo.edu.

As a reminder The University of Toledo will NEVER request your personal information by email!  Any unsolicited email demanding personal information should be viewed with skepticism. The following link provides more information to identify phishing emails:  https://www.utoledo.edu/it/security/Awareness/phishing.html
