![]() Art means transforming feelings and ideas into visual expression. At the Center for the Visual Arts you’ll learn how to express yourself artistically by developing media skills and a visual and conceptual language. Unlike any other program in the nation, the Department of Art is connected to the galleries and library of the world-renowned Toledo Museum of Art. At our unique campus you can take advantage of the outstanding research facilities and collection of masterpieces in one of the nation’s finest museums. While developing their special talents in ceramics, drawing, metalsmithing, new media, painting, printmaking, and sculpture, students can gain a “real world” experience through internships ranging from gallery management to interactive media. You’ll have the unique opportunity to take field trips guided by Art faculty to Midwest and East Coast museums, galleries, and historical sites. If you’re interested in becoming a professional artist or going on to graduate study in art, you may apply to the bachelor of fine arts program where you’ll intensify your study in your chosen studio areas. What to expect when you graduate In addition to working as fine artists, graduates find jobs in a variety of art-related fields including medical illustration, advertising, interactive media and design, photography, and visual communication. Many students choose to go on to graduate school to further their professional career choices with a Master of Fine Arts The University of Toledo advises completion of the following college-prep courses to help prepare you for college course work: · 4 years/units of English · 3 years/units of math (algebra I, II, geometry or equivalent) · 3 years/units of natural sciences · 3 years/units of social sciences · 2 years/units of a single foreign language High school preparation requirements do not apply to adult or transfer students. |
