The Foreign Language Learning Center (also referred to as the FLLC or Language Lab) is a media driven learning lab for the Department of Foreign Language at the University of Toledo. Located in Field House 2330, the learning center is a computer lab that contains many educational resources. The Foreign Language Learning Center is strictly reserved for students who study a foreign language or are foreign language majors. It is tailored specifically to the needs of these students and is a great learning resource for them.

The lab currently consists of 54 Apple dual-platform (Windows/Mac) computers. Students have access to the internet and to black and white laser printers. The computer lab can be used for listening to digital audio for their classes, working on class projects, reading authentic books, comic books, and magazines in foreign languages, watching videos from our extensive library of foreign language films, watching live and pre-recorded Dish Network international programming, and general internet usage. Students may rent out foreign languages films for one day, or watch them in the lab. Students may also obtain copies of CDs that accompany textbooks free of charge if he or she provides a blank CD-R.

Together with Dish Network and SnapStream Media, foreign language satellite TV programming is available on every computer in the lab. Currently we support a diverse array of programming in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, and Spanish. Students may record future programming for later viewing as well as peruse recordings that we have already made.

Our Resources:

Students may watch foreign language televison right on our computers.

(Spanish, left, Japanese, Right)

Students may use dictionaries and other language aids in the lab.

We also have Japanese comic books, or manga.

Students may read foreign language magazines just study without a computer in our study corner.

We have a variety of foreign language films on VHS and DVD.
