Erik Johanson
Tenor Erik Johanson has performed in concert, opera, and recital throughout the U. S., in central Europe, and in Singapore. He was first prize winner in the 1991 McMahon International Competition for Singers in Oklahoma and also twice winner of the Friedrich Schorr Prize in Adrian, Michigan.

Operatic roles have included the tenor leads in Faust, Tales of Hoffmann, Die Fledermaus (Eisenstein, performed 40 times), The Magic Flute and The Mikado, many comprimario roles, as well as numerous appearances in oratorios and cantatas, ranging from Schutz's Christmas Oratorio to Verdi's Requiem.

In 1995 he performed the Evangelist in Bach's St. Matthew Passion with the Toledo Symphony, and again joined the orchestra for a Valentine's Day concert in February 1998. He has been a regular soloist with the Lakeside Summer Symphony in Ohio. Of his 1995 Rodolfo in La Boheme with Dorian Opera Theatre of Decorah, Iowa, the critic for the Rochester (Minn.) Post Bulletin said: "[Johanson] sang with a strong, clear voice that soared through the highest phrases."

During the 1998-99 season, Mr. Johanson returned to the Concordia Seminary of Fort Wayne, Indiana, for Parts 3 and 4 of Bach's Christmas Oratorio, as well as doing several Kaspars in Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors in Michigan and Wisconsin. He also performed with the Summit Choral Society of Akron in selections from Bach's Christmas Oratorio and again in the spring with the Toledo Symphony. In addition to his active schedule, he is associate professor of voice at the University of Toledo Department of Music, husband to violinist/social activist Cecilia Johnson, with whom he frequently concertizes, and doting father of the wise Linnea, who was born in 1994.
