AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
An application to the instrumental‚ vocal or performing track of the Teacher Training program requires an audition tape featuring two selections: a fast/moderately fast tempo swing tune‚ and a slow tempo or lyrical piece.
Each tune is judged for rhythm‚ tone‚ articulation‚ and interpretation. The applicant´s performance is carefully considered both in the acceptance procedure and in ensemble placement.
The total time of the audition material should not exceed 10 minutes‚ and feature solo excerpts when the solo applicant is performing with other instruments.
Note-Each applicant must submit an individual audition; one audition for two or more applicants will not be accepted.
The audition may be on cassette tape‚ CDs or digital media files (if sent by email attachment) Acceptable digital formats include mp3‚ .wma‚ and .m4a formats.

An audition is not required for the non-performing track of the Teacher Training program

APPLICATION FEE: The application fee is $50 if application is received by May 15, 2009. A $25 dollar late fee is added to applications received after May 15. Application fees are non-refundable. Please make check payable to ”The University of Toledo‚” with Summer Jazz in the check memo area.

INSTITUTE FEE = $450 (which includes the $50 Application Fee.) Once the application fee is paid‚ the remainder of the institute fee plus any housing/food* costs is due no later than June 1‚ 2009.

HOUSING is available through the University at a special group rate for the length of the institute (June 14-19, Sunday through Friday night) The hotel features include an indoor pool, cable internet access, and many more amenities. (viewed at www.ramadatoledo.com )

Total prices are based on a 6 night stay‚ (Sunday June 14 through Friday June 19) – Should you require more or less time check box below and a university representative will contact you.

TRANSPORATION to and from the Hotel will be provided

SHARE A ROOM with another institute participant and save.






Food Rates participants may elect to 1‚ 2 or 3 meals per day.

Breakfast: bagels‚ donuts‚ yogurt‚ cereals‚ juice‚ milk‚ coffee and tea
Lunch: sandwiches, hoagies, or sloppy joes, with chips, salad and/or soup
Dinner: hamburger cookout, pizza, Italian dinner, and restaurant dining

Audition materials will be returned by mail only if a stamped, self-addressed mailer is included with the application.

If you would like to submit a digital file via email for your audition, please send it to jazz@utoledo.edu.  Send digital file as an email attachment making sure your name and address are included in the body of the email.  Please remember we can only accept mp3 wma and m4a formats.

Note: We do our best to keep up with incoming auditions, but our inbox space is limited.  If you receive a message stating that the mail was not delivered, wait three days and send the audition again.  Also, please try to keep audition files under 10 megs.

No audition required for Teach Training Program students.
