Pre-Med, Pre-Dental, Pre-Veterinary,
Pre-Optometry

What is the Pre-Med/Pre-Dent/ Pre-vet Program at UT?

This program is for students who want to go to medical, dental, veterinary, osteopathic, optometry, podiatry, or chiropractic schools.

It is a career track not an official academic major.

UT offers specialized advising and specific courses to meet professional school requirements

UT's placement rate into professional programs is outstanding (75 percent for students who have placed a 3.5 grade point average or higher).

Admissions - Direct From High School

For direct acceptance from high school into the program, applicants need:

  • A minimum high school cumulative grade point average of 3.0 OR a 25 composite ACT and/or 1140 SAT.
  • Have completed a minimum three years of high school math, one year of chemistry, and one year of biology.
  • Additional high school science course work is strongly recommended.

Students not meeting these requirements will be admitted into the College of Arts and Sciences in a major of their choice. After achieving a 3.0 or higher UT grade point average, students may apply to the Pmed/Pdent Adviser for admission into the program. Students with weak high school backgrounds, especially in math and sciences areas, are encouraged to enter University College's Quest program for the first year and take courses to strength these skills areas. After establishing a solid academic performance, students are encouraged to meet with the Pmed/Pdent/Pvet Adviser to discuss admission into the program.

Admissions - Transfer Students

For transfer students to be admitted into the program, they must have a minimum of a 3.0 higher education grade point average to be accepted directly into the program. Transfer students not meeting these requirements will be admitted into the College of Arts and Sciences in a major of their choice. After achieving a 3.0 or higher UT grade point average, students may apply to the Pmed/Pdent Adviser for admission into the program. Transfer students are encouraged to refer to the College of Arts & Sciences general information regarding Transfer Students.
