UT@TPS
UT@TPS was established in 2010 to support parents and community members to continue their schooling and thus to lead the way for Toledo’s children and youth to stay in school.
CALL is partnering with Toledo Public Schools (TPS) and Penta Career Center to support parents and community members to lead the way for their children to excel in school. The program is based on the belief that parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, neighbors, and older friends have the greatest influence on children. If these important adults are engaged in furthering their education, the children will be engaged in school, too, and will be likely to succeed not only in K-12 but beyond into college.
The program is designed to support TPS parents and grandparents, but any adult is welcome to attend; it is not a requirement to live in any particular neighborhood nor to have children enrolled in any TPS school.
Classes are held in Toledo Public School (TPS) buildings and follow the TPS daily schedule and calendar. Parents can get their children to school, then go to their own classes, and be ready to meet or pick up their children in the afternoon.
UT@TPS
- provides a supportive environment for parents and community members interested in the success of our urban public schools to pursue their own educations while being role models for youth
- provides free or affordable classes toward GED completion and a successful experience beginning college
- supports adult learners who have family responsibilities and must make their own schedules match their children’s schedules
