Mark J. Chastang, who has more than 25 years of experience in health-care administration, joined UT Medical Center in October 2004 as vice president and executive director. He previously worked for the Cathedral Healthcare System, Inc., in Newark, New Jersey, where he was vice president for product-line development.
As a member of UT's senior management team, Mr. Chastang is responsible for the daily management of the hospital's patient care, professional and support services. He oversees the development of high-quality, cost-effective, and integrated patient care programs within the hospital while fulfilling its clinical and educational goals.
Mr. Chastang has also spent four years as president of Essex Valley Healthcare, Inc., and president and chief executive officer of East Orange General Hospital, a 240-bed acute-care hospital in East Orange, N.J.; six years as chief operating officer and later executive director of District of Columbia General Hospital, a 482-bed, public, university-affiliated teaching hospital in Washington, D.C., and nine years as an assistant director at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Chastang earned a bachelor's degree in 1974 from Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn., an MPA degree in 1976 in health care administration from the University of Kansas and a master of business administration degree in 1984 from Georgia State University in Atlanta.
