Archiving, Downloading & Importing Course Content
A course archive is a file that contains an exact copy of your course content and tools, including learning activities, communication, tests and grade center columns. You can use an archive to transfer your course material from one Blackboard site to another, without needing to rebuild your course from scratch. To create an archive:
- Locate the Control Panel and click Packages and Utilities.
- The menu will expand. Click Export/Archive Course.
- The Export/Archive Course screen will appear. Click the Archive button.
- The Archive Course screen will appear. Click the check box to the left of Include Grade Center History.
- Click the Submit button to begin the archive process.

- The screen will refresh and the following message will appear in green bar near the top of the screen:
![]()
Once you receive the confirmation email, you can then download the archived file to your computer:
- Locate the Control Panel and click Packages and Utilities.
- The menu will expand. Click Export/Archive Course.
- The name of the archive file should now appear on the Export/Archive screen. Click the chevron to the right of the file name and select Open.

- A File Download window will pop open. Click Save to download the file to your computer.
Once you have saved the archived file to your computer, you can then import that file into your new Bb 9 site:
- Locate the Control Panel and click Packages and Utilities.
- The menu will expand. Click Import Package/View Logs.
- The Import Package/View Logs screen will appear. Click the Import Package button.
- The Import Package screen will appear. Click the Browse button in Step 2 to find and select the archived file on your computer.
- Step 3 allows you to select the course materials to include. To reuse your content in its entirety, click the checkboxes to the left of every item listed except Adaptive Release Rules for Content.
- When you are finished, click the Submit button to begin the import process.

- The screen will refresh and the following message will appear in a green bar near the top of the screen:

Once you receive the confirmation email, you can then begin to organize your course for the new term!
