Criminal justice explores the prevention and control of crime, juvenile delinquency, and the administration of justice. Police, prosecution, courts, correctional, and private agencies are all part of the criminal justice system. Organizations involved with crime control, public safety, security, and regulated legal services and functions play a significant role as well.
UT's criminal justice program provides students with knowledge about crime, law enforcement, the legal system, corrections, and juvenile justice. It gives students the necessary skills to succeed in the employment field of criminal justice, law school or graduate school. Criminal justice majors gain knowledge, research and practical experience about the numerous professions in the social and behavioral sciences. Sample B.S. in Criminal Justice checklist and forward (PDF).
What to expect when you graduate
Graduates find jobs as police officers, adult and juvenile correctional counselors, probation officers, youth counselors, park rangers, private security specialists, and more. With work experience, there are also supervisory opportunities in a variety of federal, state, local and private criminal justice related agencies and organizations.
