Course Preview
This covers the same material as a regular lecture version. You will read the textbook, do an Internet exercise, take quizzes and write papers, moving as fast as you want. The course has 14 quizzes, three short essays, and a final examination. If you are dissatisfied with your quiz grade, you can retake the quiz once. You can also resubmit a paper. You should plan on completing a module every few days. Staying on schedule is the key to success because summer school goes fast. Besides the quizzes and essay, there is a final examination taken on line.
If you have already signed up for the course and are wondering how to get a head start before the term begins, buy the textbook and start reading it: The Challenge of Democracy, 9th edition, the Essentials, by Kenneth Janda, Jeffrey M. Berry, Jerry Goldman, Deborah Schildkraut and Kevin W. Hula (2012), published by Cengage Wadsworth. Do not confuse it with the long edition. Once the course begins, you must have the book. The first assignment is due within a few days, so you cannot wait. Both the Barns and Noble and Bancroft St. bookstores will have the book. If you order on line, for instance from Amazon, ask for fast delivery so you will be ready on time.
