Secondary/Adolescence to Young Adult Education at UT Do you remember a teacher who has influenced your life in some way? You can return the favor by majoring in secondary/adolescence to young adult education and change the lives of young adults, ages 12–21. Students with high energy and a passion for life learn the skills needed to make a difference in adolescents’ lives and their families through teaching. UT’s academic preparation in the arts and sciences is directly linked to the professional preparation for teaching. Students graduate with two degrees, one in education and one in the arts and sciences major that they will teach in grades 7–12 for integrated social studies and integrated mathematics. Students who choose integrated language arts or science can choose the dual or single degree option. In addition, UT’s program explores critical issues like literacy, technology and multicultural perspectives. Student teaching gives students the chance to work with outstanding teachers and gain real-world experience by actually teaching in a classroom. After earning their bachelor degree(s), students are eligible for initial teacher licensure in the state of Ohio. What to expect when you graduate The need for talented secondary/adolescence to young adult education teachers is strong and is expected to increase through the next decade, because of the increasing population of school-aged kids and significant numbers of teachers retiring. 	did you know? About half of secondary teachers in public schools majored in an academic subject and about four out of ten majored in an academic subject area in education.

Ohio has reciprocity with 47 other states allowing Ohio education graduates to work or relocate to almost anywhere in the country.	Group campus tours are available Monday through Friday at 10:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m., and on Saturday at 11:15 a.m., year round, with the exception of national holidays. Individual admission appointments are available by request. The integrated social studies licensure program prepares candidates to teach social studies for grades 7–12. Candidates in this program will earn both an education and an arts and sciences degree and be eligible for initial licensure by the state of Ohio as a secondary social studies teacher.
