Academic Planning
Graduation--Your Questions, Answered!
Overview of the steps to preparing for graduation for master's and doctoral students. This session is designed to provide students with important information to keep you on track with plans for earning your degree and to help you navigate the graduation process.

Thesis and Dissertation
ETD Preparation and Submission Workshops for Main Campus Programs
This program will provide an overview of the electronic submission process for graduate theses and dissertations within the context of graduation requirements for the Graduate College Office on the Main Campus as well as a presentation of the submission steps for OhioLINK. Additional sources of information will be identified to provide students with the tools necessary to complete the electronic submission process.

ETD Open Labs: Formatting and Submission
This open lab is designed to provide one-on-one assistance with formatting your electronic thesis or dissertation to comply with UT Graduate Council regulations, and submitting to OhioLINK (and ProQuest UMI, for dissertations). In particular, we will help with using Word and the newly released Word templates to achieve correct formatting. Please save your document to your "H" drive or bring it on a flash drive to the lab. There will be two facilitators circulating to provide assistance.

ETD Word Templates: How to Use
Session will cover how to comply with formatting requirements the simple way: by using
the Word template provided by the College of Graduate Studies. We will cover how to
write within the template, or cut and paste existing content. Use the template as
you start your writing journey and you will find formatting
to be stress-free. Bring your writing with you on a flash drive and begin during the
session!

Career Development
Career Exploration and Self Assessment
Career planning throughout your graduate program will help you to identify and achieve your professional goals. The planning process begins with self assessment. This program will help you to understand that effective career decision-making begins with knowing yourself. Topics to be covered include exploring interests, skills, values, increasing career awareness; and understanding the connection between degree/education and careers.

This session will advise graduate students on effective methods for writing an advanced resume or curriculum vitae (CV). From your objective and work history to your education and skills, learn how to make each section the best it can be. Also, we will include guidelines for both electronic databases and conventional uses.

This program is designed to assist graduate students in acquiring the skills and knowledge required to be successful in a job search. Information will be given to assist students in identifying options, translating credentials and skills, networking, interviewing, and negotiating salary and benefits.

Graduate Writing
Copyright 101: Vital Information for Graduate Student Creators and Consumers
This session will cover fundamental principles of copyright law as it applies to the graduate student’s own composition and to the use of copyrighted material in his/her document. Handouts will include a Fair Use checklist and case study that will be discussed during the session.

Literature Reviews: The Foundation for Focused Research
Literature Reviews are conducted by writers of theses/dissertations in all disciplines, yet typically only a third of incoming graduate students know the purpose of conducting one, and even less are aware of the stylistic and organizational conventions of writing one. This session will cover the basics of a literature review, with additional resources tailored for various disciplines as a hand-out.
