    Program Overview

    The mission of the graduate program in the Department of Kinesiology is to provide students with an opportunity to enahnce their professional development and/or prepare for further study through courses and research in exercise science.  Areas of emphasis in the program include cardiopulmonary physiology, muscle physiology, clinical kinesiology, biomechanics, and athletic training.

    Of Special Interest

    The department has a long history of excellence in the training of exercise science professionals.  Our graduates can be found in many of the top exercise science academic and research programs across the country and in many foreign countries.

    Curriculum Information

    The Department offers a Masters (MS) Program which requires the completion of 36 graduate credit hours including a required thesis.  The PhD requires 72 post-Masters gradaute credit hours, or 90 post-baccalaureate credits, written and oral comprehensive examinations as well as a dissertation are expected for the PhD candidacy. 

    Admission Information

    GRE required - recommended minimum scores, MS - 900, PHD - 1040 (verbal and quantitative combined). Recommended minimum GPA 3.0 (masters applicants), 3.25 (doctoral applicants). Previous coursework related to exercise science and references are required.  Applicants who wish to be considered for a graduate assistantship should submit their completed application by April 1, this date is established to assist faculty and the department in selecting candidates for financial consideration.  Beyond that date, applicants will be considered consistant with The University's policy on rolling admissions.
