    Martin Ritchie, Ed.D., Professor
    University of Virginia

    School Counseling Program Coordinator
    Martin Ritchie is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor. He has worked as a school counselor and has trained counselors in both the United States and Australia. Dr. Ritchie has numerous publications and has presented at national and regional conferences. He has served as President of the Ohio Counseling Association, the Ohio Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and the Northwest Ohio Counseling Association. Dr. Ritchie has served as Editor of the Counselor Education. He is a co-founder of the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors. Current research interests include accountability of school counselors, professional identity, legal and ethical issues, and active ingredients in therapeutic change. Most recently, Dr. Ritchie was recognized as the 2006 Outstanding Mentor by the North Central Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.     Wendy Cochrane, Ph.D., Associate Professor
    University of South Florida
    School Psychology Coordinator

    Wendy Cochrane received her Bachelor’s degree from Miami University (1990), Master’s degree from The Ohio State University (1994), and Doctoral degree from the University of South Florida (2000). Her graduate degrees are both in school psychology. Wendy has been a classroom teacher, worked on state grants, and practiced as a school psychologist for 3 years. She is state and nationally certified as a school psychologist. Her research interests include universal interventions and system-level change, treatment integrity in school-based interventions, resiliency, and issues in training and supervision in school psychology. You can contact Dr. Cochrane at Wendy.Cochrane@utoledo.edu.  

    Yi Ding, Ph.D., Assistant Professor

    Yi Ding was born in Southern China. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Education in Special Education from Beijing Normal University. She went to University of Minnesota Medical School for her internship in Pediatric Psychology and Pediatric Neuropsychology rotations. She received her Ph.D. in School Psychology from The University of Iowa in 2008. She is a Licensed School Psychologist (LSP). She has experience practicing in different school settings, department clinics, and hospital settings. Her research areas include attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities (LD), autism spectrum disorders (ASD), the use of functional behavioral analysis (FBA) in children with genetic syndromes and developmental disabilities, and international school psychology and special education issues. Dr. Ding has presented at the state and national levels. She also travels frequently to present at international conferences. She has published in various journals, such as School Psychology International and Journal of International Association of Special Education. She has been collaborating with her Chinese colleagues and has published in Chinese and Taiwanese peer-reviewed journals.     Paula Dupuy, Ed.D., Professor

    Paula Dupuy joined the department in 1989. She is a licensed clinical counselor and psychologist in the State of Ohio. Dr. Dupuy has worked as a community counselor, school counselor, and consultant in race relations/multicultural counseling. Dr. Dupuy’s scholarly research interests have been in the areas of gender studies, multicultural counseling, family development, spirituality, qualitative methods, and ethics. She has published in refereed journals and books during her tenure in the department. Dr. Dupuy regularly attends professional meetings, conventions, workshops, and seminars. She has presented programs at professional meetings, such as the American Counseling Association Annual Convention, The Association of Counselor Education and Supervision convention, Annual Conference of the Research on Women in Education Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association, American Counseling Association Annual Convention, World Family Therapy Congress, Midwestern Educational Research Association, and Great Lakes Regional Conference for Counseling Psychology. Dr. Dupuy has served on numerous university committees including Faculty Senate, Kohler International Travel Grants Committee and University Committee on Academic Personnel. Through a partnership with the University of South Africa (UNISA), she has taken doctoral students to South Africa to study with UNISA faculty and students and train in a township counseling clinic, hosted visiting professors from UNISA, and served on doctoral dissertation committees for students fro UNISA. Dr. Dupuy is a recipient of the 1999 North Central ACES Mentoring Award and the 1994 University of Toledo Multicultural Campus Community Service Award.     Holly Harper, Ph.D., Assistant Professor

    Holly Harper received her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Ohio University in 2006. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (PC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She has worked as a school counselor and has experience practicing in medical residency programs, community mental health centers, and crisis intervention. Her areas of research interests include motivation, professional identity, eating disorders, and school counselor accountability. She is published in the Journal of Contemporary Psychotherapy in the area of integrated health care. Dr. Harper has presented at the national and state levels. She currently serves as President of the Ohio Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (OACES).     John Laux, Ph.D., Associate Professor

    John Laux received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Akron. John is a PCC-S, a LICDC, and a Psychologist. His areas of clinical and research interest include dual-diagnosis, personality disorders, and personality assessment. He has clinical experience in a variety of treatment settings including the Cincinnati VAMC, a community mental health center, a campus counseling center, and an inpatient chemical dependence treatment center.     Sue Martin has been the department secretary since 1973. Sue makes sure that everything runs smoothly and efficiently within the department.     Nick Piazza, Ph.D., Professor
    Southern Illinois University-Carbondale
    Webmaster and Technology Coordinator

    Nick J. Piazza, PhD, is a licensed professional clinical counselor with supervisory endorsement (PCC-S), licensed psychologist, and Professor in the Department of Counselor Education & School Psychology at The University of Toledo. Dr. Piazza has worked in the mental health and substance abuse fields since 1975, and holds national certification as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor and as a Master Addictions Counselor through the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). Before entering academia in 1984, Dr. Piazza was the Administrator of the Jacksonville Area Council on Alcoholism (JACOA), a regional comprehensive addiction inpatient and outpatient treatment hospital in central Illinois. Dr. Piazza is nationally recognized as a lecturer on psychopharmacology, and is on the medical staffs of two different local hospitals. He has numerous publications and has presented frequently at both the American Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association annual conventions. Dr. Piazza formerly served on the editorial boards of Counseling and Values and the Journal of Mental Health Counseling, and is currently on the editorial board of Essential Psychopharmacology. Dr. Piazza is a past President  and current Board Member of the Northwest Ohio Counseling Association.     Kathleen Salyers, Ph.D., Associate Professor

    Substance Abuse Counseling Coordinator
    Kathleen Salyers joined the department in the fall of 2001. She received her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Ohio University. She is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), Licensed Social Worker (LSW), and Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor III-E (with supervisory endorsement) (CCDC III-E). Her areas of research interest include chemical dependency, addiction as a family disease, behavioral change, spirituality in counseling, and salutogenesis/wellness. Dr. Salyers has worked in the social service/mental health/chemical dependency fields since 1972. She has a varied background that includes working as a Behavioral Specialist with MRDD, Crisis Counselor with the homeless, Case manager for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Special Needs Coordinator with Headstart, and Chemical Dependency counselor/supervisor in outpatient and residential treatment settings.     Daniel C. Seemann, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus
    Dan Seemann joined the faculty at the University of Toledo in 1962. He has an MA in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Guidance and Counselor Education. He has been both an administrator and teacher during his career. In the earlier years he was a board member for Rescue, Inc., the suicide prevention agency in Toledo, the Psychological Coordinator for a Vista training unit, and chair of the task force on mental disabilities for northwest Ohio. He was the first full-time Director of Student Activities at UT. His research interests include both psychology and chiropractic in which he has written over 50 articles. Some of his work in psychology dealt with the impact leader behavior and stress has in the work place. He helped establish measuring standards for the galvanic skin response (GSR). His interest in chiropractic is upper cervical biomechanics. In 1998, he received the R. R. Gregory award for outstanding scientific contributions to chiropractic. Dr. Seemann retired from UT in 1989, but continues to teach in the department during the Fall semester. He also holds the rank of Colonel USMC (ret) and plays string bass in a jazz group in the Toledo area. Dr. Seemann's office phone number is 419.530.4301.
