Deborah Coulter-Harris (Ph.D. in English and Linguistics, University of Toledo, 1995; MS Business and Human Relations, Abilene Christian University; B.A. English, Fitchburg State University) was awarded University of Toledo’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year in 2012. Deborah has had a diverse professional life: she acted at the Abbey and Gate theaters in Dublin, Ireland; wrote and performed a weekly radio show for RTE in Ireland; worked as speechwriter for the CEO of Mostek Corporation in Dallas; served as Russian linguist in the United States Army; taught at colleges and universities in Greece, Ohio, New York, and Philadelphia, and, served as Middle East Political Analyst at Central Intelligence Agency where she won five Exceptional Performance Awards for her analytic writing tradecraft. Deborah's first poetry collection, The Dirt Road, was published in Dublin, Ireland. Deborah's verse play, The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, is published in her first major collection of poetry and plays, Stone Keeper, A Collection of Poetry and Plays, by Linus Publications, Inc. in August, 2008. Linus Publications, Inc. also published her first book on writing, Writers Crossing Boundaries: Writing the Real World in August, 2008. Her new academic, non-fiction book, The Queen of Sheba: Legend, Literature and Lore was published by McFarland Publishers in January, 2013. Her new academic book entitled, Chasing Immortality in World Religions was published by McFarland Publishers in 2016. Her new book, The Letters: Illuminating God and Man, is forthcoming in 2018. Deborah’s play, “Sheba Rules,” was produced by the Toledo Repertoire Theatre for its Toledo Voices series; Deborah is also a member of the Board of Trustees at the Toledo Rep. Deborah's interests include international politics, Middle East studies, British Literature, world religions, theater, archaeology, environmental issues, and Ancient History. Deborah is keen on connecting global issues to composition studies. Deborah has also coordinated the Shapiro Essay Revision contest for 10 years, and chaired the Shapiro Advisory Committee and the Professional Technical Writing Committee for several years. Deborah will serve as CAL Council representative again this year, 2017-2018. Deborah also has an Honors Diploma in Russian from the Defense Language Institute, and is a graduate of the Sherman Kent School of Analysis, Career Analyst Program at CIA.
