    Exhibitors and Commercial Support

As an accredited provider through the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, all UT sponsored CME activities must adhere to the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support.

The definition of a commercial interest is any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients.
To maintain CME as independent from commercial interests, control of identification of CME needs, determination of educational objectives, selection and presentation of content, selection of all persons and organizations that will be in a position to control the content of the CME, selection of educational methods, and evaluation of the activity cannot be in the hands of a commercial interest.

Acknowledgement of educational grants from commercial supporters is to be disclosed to the participants prior to the activity.  Generally this is handled in the course syllabus.  A Letter of Agreement must be signed by the commercial supporter, the Course Director and/or the Director of CME.

    Exhibitors:
Exhibitors are not considered commercial supporters.  An exhibitor is paying for space to exhibit their products or services.  Exhibit fees are determined by the course director/planning committee.  A conference display form agreement should be utilized to confirm the displays.

    NOTE:

    • Neither exhibitors nor commercial supporters are “sponsors” of the activity.  Only the accrediting organization (The University of Toledo) is considered the sponsor.
    • All income from educational grants and exhibit income must be reflected in the final Income and Expense report submitted as backup materials to the Center for CME.
    • All UT-CME Activities must follow The University of Toledo Vendor Policy.
