UT Policy
Adapted from UT policy 3364-50-03.
- Policy.
- UT policy 3364-50-03 identifies the AEC as the source for authorizing accommodations for those UTHSC students who qualify as having a disability in compliance with Section 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008. The university does not discriminate on the basis of disability in admission, access, treatment, or employment in its programs and activities.
- Commitment.
- Since passage of the Rehabilitation Act, The University of Toledo has been committed to eliminating barriers to services, employment and educational opportunities for people with disabilities. Our commitment was renewed with the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA") in 1990. With the passage of the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA), we restate our goal of providing seamless access.
- Equal opportunity.
- The university is an equal opportunity educational institution and prohibits unlawful discrimination based upon disability, as defined by the ADA.
- Compliance with the ADA.
- ADA regulations stipulate that equal educational opportunities must be provided for individuals with disabilities by removing instructional barriers to education by providing reasonable academic accommodations to the learning environment. The university is committed to making reasonable accommodations and/or academic adjustments for all employees, students, or applicants with disabilities, provided that the individual can safely perform the essential duties and assignments inherent to the job or the program curriculum and provided that any accommodations made do not represent an undue hardship to the institution. Academic adjustments, however, shall not alter the fundamental nature of the programs and courses offered by the university.
