The elective rotation in Pediatric Nephrology provides a comprehensive study of pediatric renal disease. During this rotation, residents evaluate and manage patients with hematuria, proteinuria, nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis, chronic renal failure, hypertension, urolithiasis, congenital defects, and post-renal transplants.
Residents also gain experience in the Pediatric Urology clinic during the rotation. Residents will work with internationally-renowned pediatric urologist, Dr. Kenneth Kropp and Dr. Dennis Liu. In addition, admissions and consultations at Mercy and Toledo Children's Hospital expose the resident to patients with severe manifestations of renal disease, including acute renal failure electrolyte imbalances, hemolytic uremic syndrome, and hypertension.
Residents will also have the opportunity to observe various renal procedures and treatment
modalities, including kidney biopsy, peritoneal
dialysis, and hemodialysis. Residents are encouraged to participate in monthly team
conferences for all end stage renal patients. Residents
rotate with pediatric nephrologist Dr. Ridwan Tarabishi .
