Associate Vice President for Development, Health Science Campus
Howard works closely with Vice President Vern Snyder and Dr. Jeffrey Gold [provost, executive vice president for health affairs and College of Medicine dean] to build the awareness, recognition and philanthropic support for the Health Science Campus and the UT Medical Center.
Prior to accepting his position at UT, Newman was vice president of development for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and held a number of positions at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Those positions included associate dean for advancement in the College of Medicine, chief development officer for the University of Illinois Medical Center and vice president for the University of Illinois Foundation.
Before working in Chicago, he was chief development officer at the Detroit Medical Center, as well as the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
Newman received a bachelor of arts degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1972 and a juris doctor in 1988 from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He is the past president of the Michigan Association for Healthcare Development and a former board member of the Michigan Nonprofit Association.
