Employee Placement Spotlight

Adela Rios, has what is considered an ‘invisible disability;’ but a hearing impairment does not prevent her from working as an office assistant in the dean’s office of the College of Engineering. Through a customized job match created by Project SCOUT, Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission/Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation provided a phone amplifier for Adela. Removing the barrier of a hearing impairment enhanced her comfort level and ability to perform job duties in a professional manner.
Adela shares that "This position has given me a sense of accomplishment; and with the help of the phone amplifier, I am able to understand callers more clearly and respond to their needs. The people in engineering are friendly, nice, helpful, and patient, always allowing me to learn new tasks."
