Third Annual Professional Advancement Ceremony
More than 600 guests gathered in the Doermann Theatre at University Hall on August 22 for the third annual Professional Advancement Ceremony. The ceremony honored 105 PharmD and 54 Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS) students admitted into the 3rd year Professional Division. BSPS students represented the areas of Medicinal and Biological Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology/Toxicology and Pharmacy Administration.
Dean Johnnie L. Early II and faculty members presented each BSPS student with a leather padfolio, compliments of CVS/pharmacy; a Stedman’s Medical Dictionary; and the Goodman & Gilman Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics. Dr. Gerald Sherman led the students in their oath to abide by the Code of Ethics for Scientists.
During the White Coat portion of the ceremony, the dean and faculty presented each 3rd year PharmD student with a lab coat featuring the newly-designed Centennial patch, provided in part by CVS/pharmacy. Dr. Robert Schlembach, on behalf of the Alumni Affiliate, presented name badges. Each PharmD student also received the Stedman’s Medical Dictionary and the Goodman & Gilman Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics. Dr. Curtis Black led the students in reciting the Code of Ethics for Pharmacists.
In addition to Drs. Sherman and Black, participating faculty included Drs. Christine Hinko, Wayne Hoss, Marcia McInerney, William Messer, Mary Powers, James Slama, Katherine Wall, Carolyn Ford, and Hermann von Grafenstein. Shawn Eaton, of CVS/pharmacy, helped to present gifts to the students.
Staff members from the Office of Student Affairs and the Office of the Dean were also on-hand at the event, which was followed by a reception.
