2:00 PM (graduates to arrive by 1:15 AM)
John F. Savage Arena
The Ceremony (Spring ONLY)
Candidates will line up in an assigned staging area within the John F. Savage Arena starting at 1:15 PM. Staff members will be available to help in lining up of the candidates. Only candidates
are permitted in this area. Programs for students will be on their seats in the auditorium.
The ceremony begins promptly at 2:00 PM ~ No tickets are required ~ any number of family, friends, and guests can attend. During the ceremony, which will last approximately 2 hours, the University Official, the Dean, and staff members will provide directions. Please
listen and watch carefully for their signals.
The Processional
Candidates will leave staging area at 1:55 PMand move into the auditorium at 2:00 PM. Staff members will direct you where to sit. Please be seated as soon as you reach
your proper seat.

Conferring of the PhD, PharmD, and Masters Degrees
At the prompt from Dean Early, the candidates for the Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Pharmacy, and Masters degree will stand while the University Official confers the degree "en masse." Hooding
and diplomas will then be presented. See below.
Diploma Ceremony: PhD, PharmD, and Masters Graduates
During this phase of the ceremony, all graduates are to be seated except for those
approaching the stage to receive their diploma. At the prompting of the staff member,
the first row will approach the stage and stand in front of the steps on the far right
side of the stage. The ceremony will move from stage right to stage left (as you face
the stage). Each graduate will be called to the stage in the order of hooding. A staff
member will be positioned on the stage steps to check the order of the graduates before
they go on stage.
Graduates:
1. Walk across the stage to the Hooding area.
2. Turn around (your back to the hooder),
stand on the "X" marked on the floor.
3. The hooder will place the hood on you and tap you on
the shoulder to leave the stage. (The next graduates
name is called as soon as the hood is placed on you.)
4. Immediately walk across the stage to the diploma table,
shake hands with the Dean and receive the diploma from
the University Official.
5. Proceed down opposite side of stage to area for photographs
by professional photographer.
6. After photos, all graduates will proceed behind the staked flags to the
center and proceed down the ramp to your seat.
7. Award recipients ~ after photo(s), proceed to the Awards
table (behind flags and directly in front of the stage), receive congratulations
from Dr. Wayne Hoss, Executive Associate Dean, and receive award.
8. All graduates should remain in their seats until the end of the
ceremony.
PharmD graduates will receive the Oath of a Pharmacist as they exit the stage.
Administration of Oath of a Pharmacist
PharmD graduates will turn to the Oath of a Pharmaccist when instructed.
PharmD Valedictory Remarks
Conferring of Baccalaureate Degrees
The Dean will ask the Baccalaureate graduates from each degree to rise and will present
them to the University Official. When all degrees have been presented and are standing,
the Official will confer the degrees. Led by staff members, candidates will file to
the platform, one row at a time, cross the platform, receive their diplomas from the
Official as their names are called, return to their seats, and be seated.
Diploma Ceremony: Baccalaureate Graduates
During this phase of the ceremony, all graduates are to be seated except for those
approaching the stage to receive their diploma. At the prompting of the staff member,
the first row will approach the platform in front of the stage . The ceremony will
move from platform right to platform left (as you face the platform ). Graduates will
be called to the platform in alphabetical by major. A staff member will be positioned
at the platform to check the order of the graduates before proceed.
Graduates:
1. Walk across the stage to the diploma table, shake hands with the Dean and
receive the diploma from the University Official. (The next graduates name
is called as soon as you receive your diploma.)
2. Proceed down opposite side of stage to area for photographs
by professional photographer.
3. After photos, all graduates will proceed behind the staked flags to the

Recessional
Please remain seated until the staff members signal your row to rise and join the
recessional line. The lines will move out after the faculty.
As you leave the theater, faculty will be lined up to congratulate you.
As a courtesy to all those attending commencement, graduates and guests are asked
to refrain from using horns and other noisemakers during the ceremony.
