Spring Convocation Program Details

  • Date: Friday, May 5, 2017 
  • Time: 5:30 p.m. 
  • Location: Stranahan Theater (4645 Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH 43614)

Arrival time

Graduates should arrive at Stranahan at 4:00 p.m. for group and individual photos. 

The Ceremony 

Graduates will line up in an assigned staging area within the Stranahan Theater starting at 4:45 p.m. Staff members will be available to help in lining up of the candidates. Only graduates are permitted in this area. Programs for students will be on their seats in the auditorium.

The ceremony begins promptly at 5:30 p.m. No tickets are required, so any number of family, friends, and guests can attend. During the ceremony, which will last approximately 2 hours, the Dean, and staff members will provide directions. Please listen and watch carefully for their signals.

The Processional 

Graduates will leave staging area and move into the auditorium at 5:30 p.m. Staff members will direct you where to sit. Please be seated as soon as you reach your seat.

The National Anthem and Invocation

Please stand at the prompting.

Welcome and Introduction of Distinguished Guests

Special Presentation

Introduction of Outstanding Teacher and Professor

Hooding of the PhD, PharmD, and Master's Degree Graduates

At the prompt from Dean Early, students graduating from the Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Pharmacy, and Masters degrees will be hooded.

Hooding process
    1. Walk across the stage to the Hooding area. 
    2. Turn around (your back to the hooder), stand on the "X" marked on the floor. 
    3. The hooder will place the hood on you and tap you on the shoulder to leave the stage.  (The next graduate's name is called as soon as the hood is placed on you.)
    4. Immediately walk across the stage to the diploma table, shake hands with the Dean and other faculty members who may be standing on the stage.
    5. Award recipients will first proceed to the Awards table (behind flags and directly in front of the stage), receive congratulations from faculty and receive award(s).Proceed down opposite side of stage to area for photographs by professional photographer.
    6. After photos, all graduates will exit the stage and return to their seats down the center aisle.
    7. All graduates should remain in their seats until the end of the ceremony.
Oath of a Pharmacist

PharmD graduates will receive a copy of the Oath of a Pharmacist as they exit the stage and will turn to this page after returning to their seats for the Administration of Oath of a Pharmacist when instructed.

PharmD Valedictory Remarks
Baccalaureate Diploma Ceremony

All graduates are to be seated except for those approaching the stage to receive their diploma covers. At the prompting of the staff member, the first row will approach the stage. Graduates will be called in alphabetical order by major. A staff member will be positioned at the platform to check the order of the graduates before proceeding.

Diploma Ceremony Process
  1. Walk across the stage to the diploma table, shake hands with the Dean and receive the diploma cover. (The next graduate's name is called as soon as you receive your diploma.) 
  2. Proceed down opposite side of stage to area for photographs by professional photographer. 
  3. After photos, all graduates will proceed behind the staked flags to the center and proceed down the ramp to your seat. 
  4. Award recipients ~ after photo(s), proceed to the Awards table (behind flags and directly in front of the stage), receive congratulations from faculty and receive award(s).
  5. All graduates should remain in their seats until the end of the ceremony.
BSPS Valedictory Remarks
Welcome from the UT College of Pharmacy Alumni Affiliate
Recessional

Please remain seated until the staff members signal your row to rise and join the recessional line. The lines will move out after the faculty. As you leave the theater, faculty will be lined up to congratulate graduates.

As a courtesy to all those attending Convocation, graduates and guests are asked to refrain from using horns and other noisemakers during the ceremony.
