Research Notes June 6, 2008
| 1. The Research Calendar at Your Fingertips |
|
The front page of the UT Research Enterprise website now
features RSS feeds of limited submission competitions and sponsor deadlines from the research calendar. On the right side
of
the screen, you can quickly glance at the up and coming deadlines for the next three months.
Clicking the links will take you directly to the Sponsor’s
information page.
You can view calendar deadlines in three ways now. By visiting
the Research
front page, the deadline page, or going directly to the research calendar.
Visit often for updates.

| 2. Be in the Know when Adobe Forms Go |
|
Sure, downloading a new Adobe package and cutting and pasting
information from one application to another is a drag, but imagine not even knowing that a new package exists until your
submission fails. Grants.gov has implemented a new feature to improve the system-generated emails that go out every time an
agency changes a Funding Opportunity Announcement. Agencies can now add to those Grants.gov automated emails their own
comments to indicate the specific changes to the announcement and any potential impact or special applicant instructions.
NIH
plans on taking full advantage of this feature going forward and we recommend that applicant’s sign up to receive
opportunity updates. (Visit Grants.gov to Subscribe)
|
| 3. Change to Processing of No Cost Extensions |
|
|
The April eRA Enterprise Release included a change to how the eRA system will process No Cost Extensions. Now
any No Cost Extensions made to the parent grant or any of its subprojects will automatically extend all records associated
with the grant - regardless of whether the change was made via Commons or by a direct request to NIH Grants Management staff.
System synchronization of these dates removes confusion and manual clean-up effort.
|
| 4. COS Funding Opportunities has a new interface |
|
Designed to make your funding search more efficient,
improvements to the Advanced Search, Search Results and Record pages include:
• Compact presentation for more
information at a glance • Faceted search results for one-click refinement • Mouse-over pop-ups for instant
access to key information • Return of the Search Exclusion feature
All data and your personal settings
remain unchanged. Take a few minutes to try the new Advanced Search interface
right now!

| 5. The Table of Contents of the June 6, 2008 NIH GUIDE |
|
The
previous static listings for browsing published NIH Guide announcements have been replaced with real-time database query listings
that retrieve only active Requests for Applications ( RFAs ) and Program Announcements ( PAs ), based on the expiration dates
stated in those announcements. The new listing for NIH Guide Notices displays Notices published over the last two years, by
default, since expiration dates are not currently assigned to these announcements. Links to these new resources are available
from
the main NIH Guide Funding Opportunities and Notices page ( http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/index.html
).
All announcements (active plus
inactive) in each category may also be viewed by using selections in the drop-down box at the top of each listing page.
Clicking on header links allows re-sorting of lists. In addition, a new Ad Hoc NIH Guide Database Search page http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/search_guide.htm is
available, which allows for individualized queries with various selection criteria.
If you have any difficulty obtaining
the information you need from the Guide, contact Carol Wilkerson, carol.wilkerson@utoledo.edu, at
HSC extension 4252, or Rick Francis, rick.francis@utoledo.edu, at MC
extension 6193.
