|
The June 13, 2008 issue of Science (www.sciencemag.org) provided the following information.

| 2. UT RSP Drops IRIS Subscription; Continues Support for
COS Funding Opportunity Search Engine |
|
Starting with the new fiscal year, UT RSP has selected one
subscription database of research and program funding opportunities. With its advantages in the number of records
(largest of its kind with over 23,000 records), off-campus accessibility, and flexible user interface for email alerts,
saved and tagged searches and records, COS is the premium
subscription service in its field. COS provides users with
a personalized workbench which serves as a home base for information. Each user can create CV’s, expertise profiles,
weekly searches and store and monitor funding opportunities. In addition, COS Expertise offers a richly featured knowledge management
system for individuals and institutions, containing more than 480,000 first-person profiles of researchers from over 1,600
institutions worldwide. RSP is confident that UT's community of researchers and scholars will find COS a
worthwhile tool to stay informed about funding opportunities in their fields. If you don't yet have an account, please
go to www.cos.com and take a few minutes to join. Creation of an account must be from any UT
computer domain; you may then use the account from anywhere. RSP will be happy to help you at any stage of your use of COS.

4. COS Search Wizard is a Real Time Saver
|
|
Are you familiar with the Search Wizard for COS Funding
Opportunities? This tool guides you in setting up your Funding Opportunities search, with a 5-step process that prompts you
to fill out some of the most commonly used search fields.
The Search Wizard offers the ease-of-use of the Simple Search,
which is appealing to those unaccustomed to online databases. At the same time, it allows you to create a complex, targeted
search that combines numerous criteria. It is the best of all worlds! We encourage you to try the new search out, especially
if you are timid about using a detailed search form.
You'll find a link to the Search Wizard to the right of the text
box on the main COS Funding Opportunities page.

| 5. The Table of Contents of the July 11, 2008 NIH GUIDE |
|
The
previous static listings for browsing published NIH Guide announcements have been replaced with real-time database query listings
that retrieve only active Requests for Applications ( RFAs ) and Program Announcements ( PAs ), based on the expiration dates
stated in those announcements. The new listing for NIH Guide Notices displays Notices published over the last two years, by
default, since expiration dates are not currently assigned to these announcements. Links to these new resources are available
from
the main NIH Guide Funding Opportunities and Notices page ( http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/index.html
).
All announcements (active plus
inactive) in each category may also be viewed by using selections in the drop-down box at the top of each listing page.
Clicking on header links allows re-sorting of lists. In addition, a new Ad Hoc NIH Guide Database Search page http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/search_guide.htm is
available, which allows for individualized queries with various selection criteria.
If you have any difficulty obtaining
the information you need from the Guide, contact Carol Wilkerson, carol.wilkerson@utoledo.edu, at
HSC extension 4252, or Rick Francis, rick.francis@utoledo.edu, at MC
extension 6193.
