Archaeological Research Endowment Fund

Archaeological Research Endowment Fund

Deadline:  Tuesday, 19 January 2010

The Archaeological Research Endowment Fund annually provides approximately $2,000 to offset the cost of archaeological research conducted by full-time, tenured and tenure-track faculty of the University of Toledo. All proposals will be reviewed and recommendations for funding will be made by the University Research Council. Only faculty members who will be at UT for the 2010-11 academic year are eligible to apply.

Funding is available in May 2010 with all expenditures completed by 31 December 2010.  Awardees must submit a written report to the Office of Research Development by 31 March 2011, summarizing the results of the project with a list of presentations, publications and proposals directly resulting from the project.

The most important consideration is the likelihood that the award will contribute to a productive and meaningful research program.  Also important is the extent to which the proposed project will lead to self-sustaining external support.

Proposals must be double spaced, font size 12 points or higher, and submitted as a single PDF file. The following information must be included:

  1. A completed Archaeological Research Endowment Fund cover page with all appropriate signatures.

Download Archaeological Research Cover Page .doc

  2. An abstract written for a general audience that summarizes the project and its expected outcomes. The abstract must not exceed 250 words.
  3. A project description that includes sections on objectives, significance, methodology (or approach) and outcome. The outcome section should indicate how a successful project will contribute to the individual’s professional growth. The project description must not exceed six (6) pages including all figures, diagrams and references. The description should provide the council members with sufficient information to show the contribution of the project to the growth of knowledge in the field and to the faculty member’s professional development.
  4. A one-page budget, including a budget justification, that lists the major categories of expenses including salary and fringe benefits, student salaries and fringe benefits, equipment, supplies and travel.
  5. A two-page c.v. that includes the individual’s current professional position, degrees (with institutions and dates), professional positions held, recent relevant publications, artistic performances or other original products, and grants and contracts.

Evaluation:

Proposals that do not follow the above guidelines or that do not meet eligibility criteria will not be accepted. It is important that the proposal be written so that it is comprehensible to an intelligent reader but not necessarily one well versed in the particular subject.

Submit one hard copy of your proposal with the signed cover sheet, plus the complete proposal as a single PDF file (including all signatures in both copies) by e-mail or disk, no later than 5 PM on Tuesday, 19 January 2010 to Dr. Elsa Nadler, Office of Research Development, 3rd Floor, CCE Building, Health Science Campus, Mail Stop 1034, urafp@utoledo.edu or elsa.nadler@utoledo.edu (or to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, 2300 University Hall, Mail Stop 944).
