Legacy Lecture Series
Teeth to Toenails: Adventures of a Dermatologist

Dr. Dorinda Shelley, M.D.
Inspired by Professor Randy Pauch's "Last Lecture", Medical Student Council established the annual Legacy Lecture Series during the 2008-2009 academic year. The Legacy Lecture is not only an opportunity for us to recognize retired faculty who have made significant contributions to the College of Medicine and Life Sciences, but also an opportunity for these distinguished speakers to share a meaningful message that will inspire future physicians.
When: Wednesday, March 28, 2012
What Time: 5 PM
Where: HEB Room 103
Who: Dr. Dorinda Shelley, M.D.
A reception with light refreshments will follow the lecture. Please direct any questions to medstudentcouncil@utoledo.edu.
Brief Biography:
Dr. Dorinda Shelley served as Chief of the Dermatology Division at the Medical College of Ohio from 1983 until her retirement in 1997. In addition to her clinical and teaching roles at MCO, Dr. Shelley was involved as Faculty Senate President and Chair of the Faculty Promotions committee.
She published extensively with her husband, Dr. Walter B. Shelley, including 229 peer-reviewed journal articles, 6 books, and 9 book chapters. As the 2007 recipient of the Rose Hirschler Award by the Women’s Dermatologic Society in addition to her honorary membership to the American Academy of Dermatology in 2009, Dr. Shelley continues to be recognized for her excellence in dermatology.
Dr. Shelley was an editor of the recently published MCO history book, A Community of Scholars. She now enjoys writing children's books, running her used bookstores, art galleries, and antique stores in Grand Rapids, OH, implementing a literacy program, tending her farmette, and spending time with her family.
