About the Office of LGBT Initiatives
This new venture, backed by the Office of Multicultural Student Services, Division of Student Affairs and President's Council on Diversity, marks an exciting time of change at The University of Toledo. In response to a call for services and programs in support of UT's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students, The Office of LGBT Initiatives was established in January 2009. The office will work to educate the university community about issues important to LGBT students, and will forward the institution's mission of diversity in all its forms.
Many thanks to those who have supported the creation of this initiative, especially the students of Spectrum, led by Noah Gillespie, who presented the original proposal to President Jacobs asking that the office be created. As you peruse this website, please do not hestitate to send your feedback and ideas to lgbt@utoledo.edu.

LGBT Initiatives develops, delivers and coordinates programs and services to provide outreach, support, advocacy and community building for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning (LGBTQ) students, and their allies. In alignment with the university’s core values, the office collaborates with offices and programs campus-wide to serve LGBTQ students and assess and respond to student and community needs.

The following vision will guide the efforts of LGBT Initiatives:
- To promote the visibility and integrity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning community at UT
- To increase education and awareness of issues important to LGBTQ and other students, faculty, staff, and community
- To provide a voice for the LGBTQ community at UT and actively promote an inclusive campus culture in alignment with the university’s core values
- To celebrate and honor the history, culture and achievement of LGBTQ people
- To promote the understanding that other social identities intersect with and impact our sexual orientation, gender identity, and self expression, and that not all members of our communities self-identify in the same way
- To act on our commitment to social justice and inclusiveness through collaboration, advocacy, and resource provision
- To provide programs and support services that promote the personal, intellectual, and academic growth of LGBTQ students, their allies, and all members of the UT community
