SMART COMPUTER BASED

Overview Insight Database Applications Comparison Case Studies References

APPLICATIONS

Ø    Portable Notepad Computers or Tablet PC’s

·         Applications where onsite construction superintendents or project mangers need to photograph particular phases of the build project, write a note or question on the photo, and then have the ability to email the photo back to the office or project team for suggestions or analysis.

Ø    Quik Ruler Digitizer & Smart Menu Keypads

·       An exciting affordable measuring workstation comprising of Digitizer and LCD display that quickly and accurately automates blueprint takeoff and drawing measurement processes by simply selecting the points on a given area.

Ø    Thickness Testing Gauges

·       Nondestructive, battery powered, handheld instrument for measuring the thickness of concrete slabs, pavements, tunnel linings, walls and other plate-like structures without drilling, coring or patching the area and even through cured, hardened and surface coated areas.

Ø    Explorer Mobile

·         Mobile that allows to update your payroll, equipment usage, material costs, production and hired equipment data, no matter where you are. It streamlines the workflow by capturing payroll and equipment usage at the source and updates the corporate systems in real time.

Ø    Digital Hard hats

·       Hard hat with added computer hardware and software to perform collection, storage, and retrieval of construction information that aids in real-time communication between an inspector in the field and remote experts.

Ø    Palm Estimator:

·         Onsite field estimators can transfer field-generated estimating data and reports back to the main office simply by downloading key information gathered remotely at the project site.

Ø    Handheld Computers:

·         Onsite construction part tracking and inventory along with component positioning and orientating applications are available with these handheld systems.

Ø    Component Tracking Systems:

·         Applications where onsite project managers need to collect, store, and synthesize data into a database for future report development consisting of location coordinates, maps and other geographical attributes.

Ø    Estimation Software:

·       Helps to capture more profits and facilitates better management of bids and buildings by integrating and optimizing estimation and job controls for maximum profitability and real-time management.

Ø    Project Management Software:

·         Project collaboration service streamlines the flow of information between owners, architects, contractors, and subcontractors and ensures that the projects are on schedule and within the budget. This access helps companies eliminate costly errors, and complete projects to specification.

Ø    Building Information Modeling Systems (BIM)

·       In a typical scenario, the architect would extract information from the model for use in calculating wide range performance characteristics, such as heat/loss gain, day lighting effects, air flow, egress under emergency conditions, structural performance and financial feasibility. Specialized knowledge would no longer be needed for data input or interpreting of results, creating a closer linkage between analysis and design process. “Feedback gaps” for the designer would thus be eliminated. Tightly coupled with the building information model, performance analysis and evaluation tools could now provide meaningful feedback to the design decision-maker, in the context of the overall building design.

·         3-D Modeling Systems

Applications are that a disk is presented to the owner with a 3-D model along with the blueprints and other construction documents (all produced by the same 3D modeling system); to give the owner as well as contractors and everyone else involved in the construction process a clearer perspective of what is to be constructed.

·         4D modeling tools

Helps the construction process by linking a 3D model with a schedule to visualize construction over time on a computer screen; it will also produce the construction documents. 4D CAD can be used at various levels of detail from simulating and coordinating the overall phasing of a project to coordinating the daily work of a group of contractors and subcontractors.

·         5-D Modeling Systems

Applications for 5D modeling are: it provides time-based procurement requirements and perform various cost analyses. The system continuously maintains a bi-directional link between design, cost and schedule. The process of connecting the Virtual Construction model to cost, and using the results to drive activities creation, stands at the heart of the Virtual Construction concept. Each Method is provided with its specific Resources information -Equipment, Labor, Material, and Cost. This offers a tremendous amount of help and cost savings to the construction process, saving time and consulting fees.

Ø    Online Bidding:

·       It is used for exchanging bid-related information between the agencies and the contracting community allowing online, secure bid submission and minimizing the complications caused due to improper communication, extensive paperwork and long and extensive correspondence delays.

Ø    Online Trading:

·       Scheduling controlling, regulating, analyzing and auditing the procurement and delivery of materials and services required for construction. On-line functions include: estimating the cost of a purchase; preparing and issuing detailed specifications and complete requests for proposals; requesting bids from selected suppliers; communicating with bidders; receiving, comparing, and evaluating bids; negotiating offers and conducting auctions; issuing purchase orders with all required attachments; making payment; and monitoring schedules and deliveries.

Ø    Optimum Design:

·       It helps in improving the design quality of the structure to be constructed through an integrated web-based business process assisted by the reviews and comments of authors and designers. This helps to obtain a successful resolution of design problem and related issues before project milestones are reached.

Ø    Visual Form of Construction Activities:

·       For visualizing the activities at a construction site and creating an advanced web-based 3D user interface offering the possibility of accessing all the project information from any desired location.
