SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The Division of Community and Economic Development is an outreach arm of the University of Toledo's University College focused on using technology and capacity-building efforts to aid urban and regional communities' transition from manufacturing-based to technology-driven economies.

The Division's mission is to facilitate competitive and sustainable economic development in urban and regional communities transitioning from manufacturing-based to technology-driven economies using technology-based strategies, tools and practices and partners in higher education. It is also the Division's mission to develop technology-based strategies, tools and practices that are widely recognized and implemented--thereby redefining how economic development is thought of and applied everywhere.
Objectives

  • To enhance the technological economic competitiveness of urban and regional economies.

  • To keep abreast of technology trends and practices.

  • To develop state-of-the-art strategies, tools and practices to promote economic development.

  • To develop and implement capacity-building practices to ensure the participation of major industries and historically disadvantaged segments of society.
