The division, designed and developed the Construction Entrepreneurship
Module (CEM), which is focused on providing
business development, technical assistance and education to construction
contractors and sub-contractors to help them expand and/or diversify
their businesses.
The module provides a variety of services, from help with writing a
business plan and instruction on computer software used for tracking
project costs to mentoring partnerships and networking opportunities
with local construction industry leaders. The goal is to provide DBE
entrepreneurs with increased know-how and exposure making them
competitive for larger contract awards. To graduate from the program,
participants must attend 90 percent of their scheduled classes and score
75 percent or higher on the final exam.

Applied Construction Technologies (EACT):
The
education and training component of the Capacity
Building in Construction Program effort centered on
education and training in 21st century emerging applied
technologies. EACT Module of CBIC at The University of Toledo is
engaged in extensive research and training work to
educate and train the construction community (i.e.,
property owners, builders, contractors, architects,
engineers) about the existing and emerging construction
technologies.
The objective is to create a global awareness about the
existence and benefits of emerging construction
technologies that have passed through the innovation and
commercialization stages, but are lagging in application
due to manifold reasons like ignorance, insufficient
knowledge, affordability and lack of education &
training.
The efforts put together by the EACT Module are
supported by U.S. Department of Labor as the partner and
primary funding source leading the construction industry
to a new era.
Construction
Workforce Preparedness Module (CWPM)
The
education and training component of the Capacity
Building in Construction Program effort centered on
education and training in 21st century emerging applied
technologies.
The Construction Workforce Preparedness Module (CWP) is a free
pre-apprenticeship education and training curriculum focusing on
individuals from historically disadvantaged segments who are currently
unemployed or underemployed and would like to enter a construction
skilled-trade apprenticeship program. The module is open to anyone with
a high school diploma or a G.E.D., and business owners who complete
CBIC’s Construction Entrepreneurship Module are eligible for offerings
to help them improve their skills or diversify their business.
Participants typically take a series of six basic classes held in the
evening and complete a comprehensive review (gaining information about
skills and training requirements, average earnings and job outlooks) of
16 workstations representing the main skilled trades. Successful
completion of the curriculum requires satisfactory performance in
classes as well as 90 percent attendance at all activities. Participants
who successfully complete the module’s requirements receive a
certificate.

The
Division designed, developed and operated the
Capacity-Building in Construction Program (CBIC), under contract
with the city of Toledo. The primary purpose was to provide opportunities to entrepreneurs and workers from historically
disadvantaged segments of the workforce for developing and refining
their construction-related business and trade skills. The aim is to
supply qualified, competent workers and DBE's to the industry while also
providing traditionally underserved groups with access to good jobs and
increased long-term earnings.
Kiddie
Construction Module:
The
education and training component of the Capacity Building in
Construction Program effort centered on education and training in 21st
century emerging applied technologies. Kiddie
Construction Module
is an introduction of emerging applied building and construction
technologies associated with the built environment. for k-12
prep-tech/tech-prep orientation purposes.
