SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGY PREPAREDNESS

The division, designed and developed the Construction Entrepreneurship Module (CEM), which  is focused on providing business development, technical assistance and education to construction contractors and sub-contractors to help them expand and/or diversify their businesses.
The module provides a variety of services, from help with writing a business plan and instruction on computer software used for tracking project costs to mentoring partnerships and networking opportunities with local construction industry leaders. The goal is to provide DBE entrepreneurs with increased know-how and exposure making them competitive for larger contract awards. To graduate from the program, participants must attend 90 percent of their scheduled classes and score 75 percent or higher on the final exam.

  Primary Focus:

Emerging Applied Construction Technologies (EACT):

The education and training component of the Capacity Building in Construction Program effort centered on education and training in 21st century emerging applied technologies. EACT Module of CBIC at The University of Toledo is engaged in extensive research and training work to educate and train the construction community (i.e., property owners, builders, contractors, architects, engineers) about the existing and emerging construction technologies.
The objective is to create a global awareness about the existence and benefits of emerging construction technologies that have passed through the innovation and commercialization stages, but are lagging in application due to manifold reasons like ignorance, insufficient knowledge, affordability and lack of education & training.
The efforts put together by the EACT Module are supported by U.S. Department of Labor as the partner and primary funding source leading the construction industry to a new era.

   Construction Workforce Preparedness Module (CWPM)

The education and training component of the Capacity Building in Construction Program effort centered on education and training in 21st century emerging applied technologies.  The Construction Workforce Preparedness Module (CWP) is a free pre-apprenticeship education and training curriculum focusing on individuals from historically disadvantaged segments who are currently unemployed or underemployed and would like to enter a construction skilled-trade apprenticeship program. The module is open to anyone with a high school diploma or a G.E.D., and business owners who complete CBIC’s Construction Entrepreneurship Module are eligible for offerings to help them improve their skills or diversify their business. Participants typically take a series of six basic classes held in the evening and complete a comprehensive review (gaining information about skills and training requirements, average earnings and job outlooks) of 16 workstations representing the main skilled trades. Successful completion of the curriculum requires satisfactory performance in classes as well as 90 percent attendance at all activities. Participants who successfully complete the module’s requirements receive a certificate.

           Specialty Program:

     · Capacity Building in Construction Program (CBIC)

The Division  designed, developed and operated the Capacity-Building in Construction Program (CBIC), under contract with the city of Toledo. The primary purpose was to provide opportunities to entrepreneurs and workers from historically disadvantaged segments of the workforce for developing and refining their construction-related business and trade skills. The aim is to supply qualified, competent workers and DBE's to the industry while also providing traditionally underserved groups with access to good jobs and increased long-term earnings.

           Kiddie Construction Module:

The education and training component of the Capacity Building in Construction Program effort centered on education and training in 21st century emerging applied technologies. Kiddie Construction Module  is an introduction of emerging applied building and construction technologies associated with the built environment. for k-12 prep-tech/tech-prep orientation purposes.
