Mission Statement University College’s Student Development (SD) was established by The University of Toledo to provide academic and extra curricular support services that enhance student success. Services offered provide opportunities for academic, social and personal growth. Services are designed to acclimate students to all aspects of the University and are available to all students regardless of age, race, creed, gender, national origin or handicap.
Developmental Counseling/Advising Stages of individual student, academic and social development are addressed and monitored by the Developmental Counseling/Advising component. The goal of Student Development is to assist each student in the actualization of his/her goal(s). Each student is assigned a staff counselor/advisor who works in conjunction with the academic advisor in the student's college of choice, and assists students in course selection appropriate and applicable to the students chosen discipline. The counselor/advisor monitors students' academic progress throughout their educational program and assists students in identifying a career path that is most consistent with their educational interest and abilities. In addition to professional counselors/advisors, members of the student's peer group also provide advice. After completion of specialized training, peer advisor's assists other students by sharing common experiences and activities that expedite their adjustment to the demands of higher education. Transition Services are designed to assist qualified first time students in making a successful transition, academically and socially from high school or a non-academically involved life to the requirements of a college environment. Students have the opportunity to increase proficiency in some or all of the following areas: computation, reading and writing skills, study strategies, and cognitive development. Students also participate in various social and cultural events. The combination of activities offered through Transition Services, along with the support of counselors, peer advisors and tutors assist students in making the adjustment in personal, academic and social areas.
Student Development (SD) provides academic advising and support services for students enrolled in the Academic Skills Enhancement curriculum. Student Development advisers team with ASE professors, University of Toledo colleges and offices to provide academic and co-curricular services in the formulation of an individualized educational enriched environment needed for the success of ASE students. Student Development advisers are assigned specific colleges.
