UT College of Medicine's MEDStart

MEDStart is an early admission program offered by the University of Toledo’s College of Medicine and is designed to accept students during the junior year of undergraduate education. The program allows students to enroll into The University of Toledo's College of Medicine program for the next academic year following completion of the four-year baccalaureate education.

 Who is eligible to apply?
To be eligible for the MEDStart Program, the student must:

  1. apply to the program in the fall of the junior year of undergraduate studies;
  2. have a minimum of one year of general chemistry with labs, one year of organic chemistry or physics with labs and one year of biological sciences with labs completed at the time of application;
  3. have an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.7 or higher with a science GPA of 3.5 or higher at the time of application is strongly recommended.
  4. an ACT score of 29 or higher or an SAT score of 1250 or higher is strongly recommended.

In addition to the above credentials, the applicant must demonstrate motivation and enthusiasm for medicine as indicated by volunteer and community service activities, medically related activities, leadership skills, and/or research experiences.

Benefits of the Program

1.  Students accepted into the College of Medicine through MEDStart are not required to take the MCAT.

2.  A two-week summer internship occurs the summer following the junior year of college.
