Amish Communities
The Amish date back to 1525 when a radical group of Christians nicknamed "Anabaptists" sought a return to the simplicity of faith and practice as seen in the early Christian church in the Bible. See these communities of people that use no electricity, wear simple clothing, and live life as if in the early 1800s.
Cedar Point Amusement Park
Located in Sandusky, Ohio, it is the home to the world's fastest and tallest roller coaster. There are 16 roller coasters, more than anyplace else in the world.
Fort Meigs
Built in 1813, Fort Meigs is the largest walled fortification in North America. The fort features museum displays, living history demonstrations, artifacts, and War of 1812 exhibits.
Ritter Planetarium
Presentations are offered throughout the year at this 92 seat planetarium. After evening programs, visitors may observe the sky through a telescope, if weather permits.
Toledo Area Metroparks
The Metropark District, which encompasses more than 6,600 acres, consists of nine parks that are open everyday and feature natural areas, walking trails, and picnic facilities. In the winter, some metroparks offer nighttime cross-country skiing. Public nature walks and workshops also are available.
Put-In-Bay
Put-In-Bay is a small island in Ohio that is close to Toledo. The deep blue waters surrounding this small resort island in Lake Erie's western basin are a recreational paradise.
Toledo Firefighters Museum, Inc.
Featuring a $1 million vintage fire fighting equipment display, this museum also includes a collection of antique fire toys, Toledo Fire Division memorabilia, and a fire safety and education center.
Toledo Zoo
The Toledo Zoo features the world's only filtered underwater hippoquarium, one of the nation's largest fresh and saltwater aquariums and the Kingdom of the Apes, a gorilla, orangutan, and chimpanzee exhibit. A children's zoo, a museum of natural sciences, and the award-winning Diversity of Life hands-on exhibit also are located here.
Walcott House Museum Complex
The Wolcott House, a log home and farmhouse, the Cloverleaf Railroad Depot, a church, and a Greek Revival-style home are among the 19th century buildings featured at this complex.
S.S. Willis B. Boyer
Docked at International Park on the east side of the Maumee River, across from downtown Toledo, this restored Great Lakes freighter built in 1911 is open to visitors.
