    Toledo Community Foundation
The Toledo Community Foundation challenged the staff and advisory board members of the Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women to match two challenge grants in 2005.  Because of their challenge to us, the Center staff and advisory board came together to keep the promise made by the founders of the Center.  That promise was to assist displaced homemakers, single mothers, unemployed, and underemployed women access higher education and take their place in the world of work. We matched the challenge grants and created the Legacy Courtyard which honors the women and men important to all of us because of their contributions to the University and to our lives.  Some we remember have lost their lives in war and violence.  The Legacy Courtyard establishes the notion of legacy or the idea that, after 28 years of service, the Center needs to continue its work for the next generation of women and men who pass through the halls of the University of Toledo and go into the world.
