Welcome to the College of Visual and Performing Arts Faculty Council!

A Message from the Council Chair

Beginning in January 2011 the CVPA Faculty Council built an agenda which focused on the development of our new College. If you haven’t already done so, please take a few moments to glance at the minutes of the meetings of spring 2011; they sum up the various issues discussed and passed by Council. The CVPA Constitution, perhaps the most important document produced by the Council last spring, was ultimately passed in April by the full faculty. While we are still awaiting final approval of the document by the upper administration, the College is proceeding in the spirit of the Constitution.

Our agenda this fall will again center on the development of the College, primarily with regard to procedural matters. The major agenda items this fall include developing College Elaborations and By-laws (to be followed by departmental reviews of their Elaborations and By-laws), implementing a College faculty mentoring plan, and reviewing (or developing) the CVPA departments’ missed class policies. Other agenda items will be added in spring 2012, of course, as issues or business might arise.

Included in the postings is a Faculty Council Roster for 2011-2012. Please contact any of us in order to include business items or issues that you think should be considered by Council. A list of the members of the Council’s standing committees is also included in the postings. The committees, some of which are new or expanded in scope, include: Executive Committee of the Faculty Council, Academic Affairs/Assessment, CCAP, Instructional Equipment/Technology Oversight, Nominations/Diversity, and Accessibility.

The Council's goal is to help provide foundational leadership support to CVPA. The Council and its standing committees represent the faculty and we welcome your ideas about the College’s programmatic direction, development, and growth, as well as for maintaining the true spirit of collegiality and self-governance. Council meeting dates are posted here on this site. Faculty members are welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings. This web page will serve as an information resource so new information will be added as we go forward; please check back with this site frequently.

During Spring semester 2012, the College of Visual and Performing Arts Faculty Council will meet on Tuesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Center for Performing Arts conference room (PA1004). All faculty welcome to attend.
