Graduate Certificate in Child Advocacy
The Graduate Certificate in Child Advocacy is designed to provide knowledge about
the needs and legal rights of children.
Students will learn —
to develop an understanding and awareness of child abuse and neglect;
to recognize and react to situations involving child abuse;
how to recognize child abuse, and neglect, and subsequently report incidents to provide help for the victims
and to advocate for the best interests of our community’s abused and neglected children.
This program provides students with a general understanding of the need for child advocacy and the moral and legal obligations for reporting suspected child abuse or neglect. Individualization of the certificate is provided through a guided study in child advocacy. Many students choose to pair a certificate with a degree program, discuss all of your options with your academic adviser.
The program includes four 6000-level courses:
SOCW 6700: Perspective on Child Maltreatment and Child Advocacy
CRIM 6710: Profession and System Responses for Child Advocacy
COUN 6720: Advocacy for the Survivor of Child Neglect and Abuse
CRIM 6730: Guided Study in Child Advocacy Issues
