Online Nursing Education Certificate Program for Current Registered Nurses with a Baccalaureate or Higher Degree

The knowledge and application of the principles of teaching and learning, program development, assessment, and the evaluation of learners is paramount for the role of the nurse as educator. All classes are conducted online.

The Nursing Education Certificate Program at The University of Toledo of Ohio at Toledo is designed to provide an opportunity for current and potential nurse educators in academic and healthcare settings to develop and refine the practice of teaching. Graduates of the program receive a certificate acknowledging successful completion of advanced preparation. This certificate depicts a commitment to the professional responsibility as an educator in a variety of healthcare settings.

Curriculum SEMESTER I - SPRING
NURS672*
Teaching, Learning and Evaluation in Nursing
4 credits

SEMESTER II - SUMMER

NURS671*
Developing Instructional Programs in Nursing
3 credits

SEMESTER III - FALL
NURS673
Practicum and Seminar in Teaching
(8 hrs practicum/ week) 4 credits

Total Semester Credits, 11

*NURS671 or NURS672 must be taken prior to enrolling in NURS673
Admission Requirements

Application deadline is October 1 for receipt of all application materials

• Baccalaureate from an accredited college/university (official baccalaureate transcript required)
• Overall grade point average of 3.0 in under-graduate work
• Current unencumbered Ohio RN License
• Computer competency that includes word processing skills and ability to communicate electronically
• Personal statement describing career goals, future plans for employment and expectations for graduate study
• Current resume or CV, listing current Ohio RN license number
• Two College of Nursing recommendation forms completed by professional sources (Master in Nursing preferred)
• TOEFL is required for international applicants
• Interview, if requested
• Admission is competitive

Please mail application fee, personal statement, resume and recommendations to: College of Graduate Studies, Health Sciences Campus, Mulford Library Building, The University of Toledo, 3045 Arlington Avenue, Toledo, OH 43614-5805.

All official college/university transcripts must be sent directly from the respective college/university to the College of Graduate Studies, The University of Toledo.

Accreditation The University of Toledo College of Nursing is approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing and nationally accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Graduates of the MSN program are qualified to take national certification examinations in their specialty areas and are eligible to apply for Certificates of Authority granted by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
