EDP 5110 |
Basic Educational Psychology: A graduate level introduction to the field of educational psychology. Instruction will cover fundamentals of learning, motivation, cognition, individual differences and instructional applications as well as a research-oriented approach to answering scientific questions. |

Child Behavior and Development: Current theory and research on physical, cognitive, social, emotional and personality development are examined and used as the basis for identifying and solving problems related to child growth and development. |

Adult Development: Emphasizes classical and modern theories of adulthood from a critical perspective, as well as applications of research on cognitive, physical, personality and social development from early adulthood through old age. |

Quantitative Methods I: Introduction to major concepts of statistical description; central tendency, dispersion, and relative position and relationship. Inferential methods such as t-tests, one-way analysis of variance, and multiple comparisons are also presented. |

Adapted Physical Education: Evidenced-based and philosophical pedagogy of teaching students with low incidence disabilities within a variety of adapted physical education settings is examined. Facilitates the application of appropriate pedagogy to implement current legislation. |

Movement Assessment of Students with Disabilities: Critical examination of a variety of traditional and non-traditional assessment methods appropriate for children with disabilities in a variety of physical education settings. Provides practical experience using assessment methods and prepares the physical educator to participate on the Individualized Education Plans (IEP) committee. |

Adapted Aquatics for K-12 Settings: Examination of strategies and techniques for teaching individuals with disabilities in the aquatic setting. Emphasis is placed on the exploration of evidenced-based program- and teacher-effectiveness. Ten hours of field experience in a lifeguard supervised pool working with a person with a disability is required. |

Leadership in Adapted Physical Education: Examination of the preparation of adapted physical education personnel. Emphasis will be placed on sharing professional knowledge with profession and community, conducting a needs assessment, practicing advocacy, and contributing to the professional growth of colleagues. |

Family and Professional Relations in Special Education: Effective parent and professional partnerships will be explored. Interpersonal communication skills, legal issues, effective models for home-school communication, and differences in culture, values and family expectations will be discussed. |

Internship in Adapted Physical Education: A job-embedded practicum experience to facilitate the use of and refine the strategies for planning and implementing physical education services to children with disabilities. Practicum hours required are 150. Prerequisites: PED 5170 and PED 5950. |

Theory and Research in ECE: Review and analysis of theory and research related to rationale and methods for program options for young children. Critique research and prepare a review of synthesis of research. |
