|Description||Focus on topics of general interest to liberal arts students with particular reference to tools, concepts and analytical methods of social scientists. Students in Adult Liberal Studies only except by program director's permission.
Topical description:This course examines business communication in today’s business environment. Emphasis is placed on electronic communication from a critical lens that focuses on technology mediums: social, professional, and electronic media. Facebook, LinkedIn, website, and email communication will be explored from both a past and present perspective, including approaches to achieving professional communication in the electronic environment. Students will examine, research, and compose written critiques on the history, emergence, types of uses, outcomes, and future of business communication culminating in a comprehensive final project where an electronic business communication medium is adapted for resolving a problem in modern society using one of the aforementioned lenses. Online group discussions and presentations will accompany written reports for evaluation and assessment.

Before You Begin Your Course: Students are responsible to have access to a properly functioning computer throughout the semester. The computer must be able to run the software listed in the software section below or capable of connecting to UT's Virtual Computer Lab. If using a computer at a public library, students should check with the library to insure they will have access and for the length of time required.
UT's Virtual Computer Lab (VLab) is accessible from your computer and may have all the software you need, read more about VLab; most on-campus computer labs are also capable of accommodating online courses but students should check specific lab information with the IT Helpdesk (419-530-2400). Some courses still require specific software that students may have to purchase.
Students must have an Internet Service Provider. Students are responsible for purchasing, installing and maintaining all computer hardware and software needed for their participation in online courses.
