Entering Student Scholarships
Listed below are scholarships and awards offered to new University of Toledo students. In addition to these and the Admission Scholarships and Awards, each academic college offers its own set of scholarships and awards to new students. So after you review the list below, be sure to check out what may be available from your college in our Scholarships and Awards Guide.
Please note that all need-based scholarships require that a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) be on file by April 1st. Students can either file a FAFSA online or request a paper application from the Office of Student Financial Aid at 419.530.8700. The University of Toledo school code for completing the FAFSA is 003131.
If you wish to apply for a scholarship listed in this section that requires completion of the "OSFA/Scholarship Services 2013-2014 Scholarship Application", you need to complete only one.
Information provided on each scholarship and award is subject to change.
Joseph and Virginia Altschuller Scholarship Fund
Scholarships for full-time entering freshmen in any area of study. First preference will be given to graduates of Woodward High School. Second preference will be given to graduates of schools in Lucas County, Ohio. Applicants must have a minimum high school GPA 0f 2.75. Scholarship is renewable for three additional years if recipient remains full-time and maintains a 2.75 GPA or higher. Scholarship is based on need and merit. Application deadline is April 1.

Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students meeting the following criteria: child of a UT graduate (may be dependent or independent student) GPA of 2.5 or higher (high school GPA will be considered for entering freshmen): financial need involvement with the University and the Toledo area community full-time student. Prior recipients may reapply.

Army ROTC: 4-Year Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship
Scholarships for high school students who desire to enhance their college education by enrolling in the Army ROTC program. Juniors and seniors are both eligible and must apply no later than November 15 (for the next year). Results will be released by March 1.

Army ROTC: On-Campus Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship
Scholarships for outstanding freshmen students who demonstrate academic excellence and/or display leadership qualities. A GPA of 2.5 and an ACT score of 19 (SAT 850) are required. Must notify ROTC office by December 15 of their senior year.

Art Interest, Inc. Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for an outstanding entering freshman studio art or art education major based on talent and academic achievement. A portfolio review and a minimum GPA of 2.5 are required.

Thomas Baither Family Scholarship
Divided equally between the Colleges of Business Administration and Education. The freshman recipient shall have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and minimum ACT score of 20. Recipients shall be undergraduate students who have graduated from a Northwest Ohio or Southeast Michigan high school. Upper class recipients must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. Also based on financial need. Scholarship is renewable based on the minimum GPA requirement. May be applied to any and all educational expenses.

Frank and Molene Baker Family Scholarship
For African-American students who will be entering freshmen from Northwest Ohio. Preference will be given to students from high schools in the metropolitan Toledo area who demonstrate financial need, good character, and citizenship. Applicants must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) by April 1. Application deadline is April 1.

Susan M. Beilstein Scholarship Fund
For full-time undergraduate UT students who live in Northwest Ohio. Based on financial need and academic merit. Applicants must write a 250 word essay focusing on their need and worthiness for the award. At least one recipient must be a direct from high school graduate of a Toledo public high school. Past recipients may reapply.

George C. Beinke Scholarship
Scholarships for full-time freshman students of the Christian faith, residing in Lucas County, Ohio. Based on financial need and academic achievement. Deadline for application is April 15 of each year.

Marianne Bigney Scholarship Award in German Studies
Scholarship for any first year student entering The University of Toledo who has completed three years of German study in high school or abroad and maintained a B average in those German courses may apply for financial assistance on the basis of merit. Preference will be given to the student who has declared a major or minor in German. Recipients must register for an average of one German course per term during the award year and must maintain a B average in their college German classes. Any undergraduate student who is enrolled in a German class above the intermediate level is eligible to apply for financial assistance on the basis of need. Preference will be given to students who declare a major or minor in German. Recipients must register for an average of one German course per term during the award year.

Black Alumni Affiliate Scholarship
The Black Alumni Affiliate Scholarship is for Black students who will be attending The
University of Toledo on a part-time or a full-time basis. Entering freshmen and undergraduate
students are invited to apply. A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher is preferred. Applicants
must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file in the Office
of Student Financial Aid by March 1. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of financial
need, academic merit, and community involvement.

Paul Block Endowed Scholarship Fund
Recipients must be full-time undergraduate students with financial need, studying one of the following disciplines: art history, classics, English, foreign languages, history, humanities, music, philosophy or theater. Scholarship is renewable as long as recipients maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2.

Louise Bohm Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is for an undergraduate child (may be dependent or independent student) of a University of Toledo graduate.Recipient must have a GPA of 2.8 or higher (HS GPA considered for entering freshman), financial need, and involvement with the University and community. Scholarship is for a full-time student only. Prior recipients may reapply. Recipients will be required to speak at one or more Alumni Association dinners during the course of the year. Applicants must have a 2013-14 Free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file in the Office of Student Financial Aid by February 28. Scholarship is for $300
Boyk Sol Fund
This scholarship is for students who are Health Science Campus hourly employees or their dependents. Applicants can be full-time or part-time students who are enrolled at The University of Toledo for credit courses. Students must have a valid 2012-2013 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file in the Office of Student Financial Aid. Priority deadline for filing the FAFSA with the Department of Education is April 1, 2012.
Robert F. Cavalear Scholarship
Scholarship for an entering freshman who is an inner-city student from Toledo, Ohio. Who has demonstrated financial need. Applicants must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) by April 1. Demonstrate good citizenship through extra-curricular activities and maintain full-time enrollment each semester at the University. This is a renewable scholarship based on the attainment of the minimum standards in the student’s applicable major(s) or academic program. This scholarship covers full tuition, fees and up to $666 annually for books and supplies. Application deadline is April 1.

Christian Leadership Program - Corpus Christi University Parish
A $5000 scholarship ($1,000 the first year and for continuing students $1,000 for the second and third year, and $2,000 for the fourth year) is being offered to undergraduate Catholic students attending The University of Toledo on a full-time basis. Scholarship recipients must maintain a GPA of 2.8, be active in the Corpus Christi University Parish (CCUP), and attend the prescribed classes and seminars (a commitment of about two hours per week). Information and applications are available in the parish office. All application material must be submitted by the beginning of the respective fall semester.

Susanna L. Clement Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for an entering freshman majoring in studio art, art history, or art education. Student must show exceptional promise of creative ability and/or academic excellence. Two additional upper class awards are made annually upon submission of transcripts and portfolio review.

College of Engineering Merit Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for an entering freshman in the College of Engineering who is qualified as an outstanding student. This scholarship is renewable until the student graduates, so long as the student maintains a 3.0 GPA.

Cristoforo Colombo Scholarship Fund
Scholarships for incoming undergraduate UT students of Italian descent. Recipients may be graduates from any high school in Northwest Ohio or the surrounding area. Applicants will be required to supply an essay that describes their Italian descent. The recipients must have and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher. This scholarship is not based on financial need. The scholarship is automatically renewable if the recipients continue to meet the criteria. Deadline for application is April 1 of each year.

William Cooke Memorial Scholarship Fund
Scholarships for graduates of the Toledo Public School system. Applicants may be in any undergraduate class level and in any area of study. Entering freshman & continuing UT students are eligible to apply. Must be enrolled full-time. Scholarship is based on merit and need. Past recipients may reapply. Applicants must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) by April 1. Application deadline is April 1.

Dean’s Freshman Honor / Engineering Scholarship
Scholarships for entering freshmen with a declared major in engineering. Students should have excelled in math and science and have a minimum GPA of 3.5.

Sara Jane Dehoff Art Scholarship
Scholarship for female entering freshmen at UT who plan to major in the visual arts. Candidates shall submit a portfolio, slide or video. Scholarship is based on financial need. It will be offered for a four-year period with the provision that the recipient maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Joel & Davie Epstein Scholarship Fund
The Joel & Davie Epstein Scholarship is available to incoming freshmen students who are graduates of Toledo Public High Schools. Applicants must be enrolled full-time at UT and must exhibit financial need. Students must have a valid 2012-2013 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file in the Office of Student Financial Aid. Priority deadline for filing the FAFSA with the Department of Education is April 1, 2012. The Epstein Scholarship is a $1,000 per year award and is renewable for three additional years.
50 Men and Women of Toledo Scholarship
Scholarships for an African-American freshman student who is a Toledo area high school graduate.

Andrew J. and Mary Frances Fenady
Scholarship for entering freshmen at The University of Toledo who are graduates of Woodward High School and Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, Ohio. Scholarship will be awarded to applicants with the most improved academic performance from the freshman to senior year in high school, as determined by the high school counselors and the UT Office of Undergraduate Admission. Recipients may be enrolled in any course of study at UT. Scholarship does not require financial need. Students are automatically considered. No application is required.

Virgil A. and Beatrice M. Gladieux Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for undergraduates, including entering freshmen. Preference will be given to graduates of St. Francis de Sales, Central Catholic, Notre Dame, St. John's, or St. Ursula High Schools in Toledo. Preference will also be given to those with involvement in campus activities and employment. Applicants must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA. Applicants must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) by April 1.

John E. Harlan Memorial Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for an entering freshman enrolled in the College of Engineering. Must be a graduate from a Sylvania high school with an earned GPA of 3.2 or better and have demonstrated financial need.

Irene Ambers Hill Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for a female student enrolled in a program leading to a teaching career in the College of Education. Must be a Toledo area high school graduate in the top half of her class and in need of financial aid.

David G. and Rebecca Huey Education Scholarship Fund
Recipients shall be entering freshman in the College of Education at UT. Scholarship is based on financial need, and preference is to be given, if possible, to students with juvenile diabetes. Scholarship is renewable for sophomore, junior, and senior years if the student maintains a2.75 GPA.

International Business Scholarships
Scholarships for full-time entering freshmen who declare pre-International Business as their major.
Awards: $500-$5,000 for the first year may be renewed at varying amounts for next three years.
Minimum requirements:
- Ohio residents only
- 3.0 high school GPA
- 22 ACT or 1020 SAT
- high school foreign language study preferred
Application requirements:

Raymond H. Kiefer Scholarship
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and be enrolled full-time at The University of Toledo. Must be an incoming freshman. The intent of the scholarship is to enable a student to attend college who may not have the financial means to do so. Applicants must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) by April 1. Application deadline is April 1.

Kinsey Determination Scholarship for the College of Business
Scholarship for full-time undergraduate students in the College of Business. Each recipient shall be a male student with a single mother and shall have lived the majority of his life without the presence of a father or male guardian. Scholarship shall be based on financial need. Recipient must have a current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA), including the completed IRS 1040 form. Personal achievement and strong principles are also considered when selecting a recipient.

Virginia L. Kline Memorial Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for full-time or part-time entering freshmen and continuing students. Traditional and non-traditional students may apply. Recipients will be graduates of Waite or Libbey high schools in Toledo, Ohio. Financial need will be considered and a 2.5 GPA or higher is preferred. Applicants must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file in the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) by April 1. Application deadline is April 1.

Frank & Hazel Larimer Charitable Trust for The University of Toledo
Scholarship recipients shall be entering freshmen in the College of Education with preference given first to students from Northwest Ohio, then students from Ohio, and finally students from the rest of the United States. Recipients shall be citizens of the United States. Recipients shall be honor students who have scored above 1200 on the SAT or above 27 on the ACT or equivalent tests. Scholarship shall be renewable.

Levis Leadership UT Scholarship
Based on the philosophy that "leaders are made, not born," Levis Leadership UT is a selective program that enhances and nurtures leadership development within its curriculum. Forty incoming freshman students selected for the program have the option to participate up to four years. To be eligible for the Levis Leadership UT Program, student must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative high school GPA, a 20 ACT composite or 940 SAT combined reading and math score and demonstrated potential for leadership exhibited through high school honors, activities, community service, and etcetera. Upon acceptance to the program, students will receive a $1,000 scholarship toward their first academic year. The scholarship may be renewed at varying amounts for the next three years, based on the recipient's involvement in the Levis Leadership UT Program. Students who participate in the Levis Leadership UT Program have the opportunity to participate in many unique experiences. Some of the features of the Levis Leadership UT Program include:
- Small Leadership UT courses that embrace in-depth interaction between students and instructors.
- Innovative speakers who present information such as time management, conflict resolution, creative leadership techniques and much more.
- Retreats that enhance teamwork and leadership development.
- Opportunities for upper-class Leadership UT students to facilitate and mentor Leadership UT classes.
Patrick and Marilyn McAlear Scholarship
Scholarship for graduating seniors from Central Catholic High School in Toledo, Ohio or Cardinal Stritch High School in Oregon, Ohio. Applicants should have a 3.0 GPA and may be enrolled in any college or qualified major at The University of Toledo. Preference will be given to students in extracurricular and/or community activities and those who demonstrate financial need. The scholarship is renewable provided recipients maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and continue to meet the financial need requirements. Applicants must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) by April 1. Application deadline is April 1.

Metzger Family Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for full-time entering freshmen or transfer students from community colleges, with preference given first to students from Northern Ohio and second from Southeast Michigan. Applicants must have a 3.0 or greater GPA, demonstrate involvement in extracurricular or community activities, and be U.S. citizens. Applicants must be majoring in one of the following areas: (1) science in the College of Education (2) natural science in the College of Arts and Sciences (3) business in the College of Business Administration. The Virgil L. and Mildred J. Molyet Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship for full-time female students majoring in Electrical Engineering. Applicants should be entering freshmen with a 3.0 GPA at the time of high school graduation, or University of Toledo sophomores, juniors, or seniors. Recipients must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Current recipients must reapply each year.

Kathryn Uhl Miler Scholarship
The Kathryn Uhl Miler Scholarship is for a female University of Toledo student, with preference given to women enrolled in a program in the Catherine S. Eberly Center for Women. Special consideration shall be given to women ages 25-50, or to single mothers. Recipients must be U.S. citizens. This is a need based scholarship, which will be divided equally between fall and spring semesters. The scholarship is not renewable but recipients may reapply. Students must have a valid 2012-2013 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file in the Office of Student Financial Aid. Priority deadline for filing the FAFSA with the Department of Education is April 1, 2012.

Mosser Construction, Inc. Endowed Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for entering freshmen with high school GPA's of 3.0 and an intent to major in Civil Engineering. Priority given to U.S. citizens who are residents of Ohio. Shall pay for in-state tuition and any necessary academic fees and books. Renewable as long as recipients maintain a 3.0 and remain Civil Engineering majors in good standing.

Horace & Letitia Newton Scholarship Fund
Scholarships for graduates of Toledo area high schools. Available only for full-time students. Based on financial need and academic achievement. Deadline for application is April 15 of each year.

Leeta & Harry Nistel Endowed Scholarship Fund
Recipients must be entering freshmen at The University of Toledo. First preference will be given to graduates of Scott High School in Toledo, Ohio. The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grading system. The scholarship is based on financial need. Application deadline is April 1.

Keytack Henry Oh & Mariel Thorp Scholarship Fund
Scholarships for entering freshmen majoring in industrial engineering must have a high school GPA of 3.5 or above and demonstrate financial need. The award is renewable until the student graduates or as long as the individual continues as a full-time student and maintains a 3.3 GPA.

Ohio Academic Scholarship
Scholarships for entering freshmen throughout the State of Ohio sponsored and awarded by The Ohio Board of Regents. Based on academic achievement. Students must be full-time and must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 to retain the scholarship.

Russell Clare Perry Memorial Scholarship in Mechanical Engineering
Scholarship for full-time students who are entering freshmen majoring in mechanical engineering in the College of Engineering. Recipients must have maintained a high school GPA of 3.3 or higher. Scholarship may be renewable if recipients maintain a GPA which will qualify for graduation with honors from the College of Engineering, and if they are making normal progress toward completion of their degree.

Peter Peterson Scholarship/EFO
Scholarships for entering freshmen who are state finalists in the OSPE contest. Based on academics, leadership, character and need.

Lynwood H. Porter Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship available to qualified incoming freshmen with the intention of entering the mechanical engineering field or a qualified student who has been admitted to mechanical engineering. Must complete 30 credit hours per academic year. Based on GPA and financial need. Preference given to students from the Toledo Public School District.

Dion Raftopoulos Bioengineering Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for an entering freshman to the department of Bioengineering in The University of Toledo's College of Engineering. The recipient will be the student with the highest high school GPA. Only students with a 3.5 or greater GPA on a 4.0 scale and minimum score of 28 on the ACT exam or the equivalent SAT score will be considered.

William A. Reaper Scholarship

Scholarships are offered annually to outstanding freshmen in the College of Pharmacy by the College of Pharmacy Alumni Affiliate in memory of the college’s first dean, William McKendrie Reed, who served from 1904-1937. The Arthur Lee Roach Scholarship is available to a minority student who will be enrolled

Clarence and Margarete Simon Scholarship
Scholarship for entering freshmen in the College of Engineering with a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher. The recipients shall be U.S. citizens with preference given to Ohio high school graduates. Scholarship shall be renewable for up to four years as long as the students remain in the College of Engineering and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better.

The recipients shall be selected from among the graduating seniors of high schools in Auglaize County, Ohio who are enrolling in the College of Business Administration. Scholarship for entering freshmen with a high school GPA of at least 3.5 and an intent to major in Engineering. Priority shall be given to minority and female graduates of greater Toledo area school systems and dependents of colleagues employed by AVCA Corporation and its subsidiaries. Scholarship is renewable as long as the recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA and remains a major in good standing in the College of Engineering.

The John Stephen Szuch and Yolanda Danyi Szuch Scholarship Fund
Scholarships for full-time UT students with first preference given to graduates of Clay, Cardinal Stritch or Waite high schools. The donors may select qualified graduates from other high schools at their discretion. Recipients must have an overall GPA of 2.8 or higher and must maintain that average to be eligible for renewal. Applicants will be required to complete an application, submit a resume outlining their activities while in high school, and write a one page essay describing how they might give back to their communities through involvement during their college careers. The scholarship is renewable for three additional years provided the recipient continues to meet the criteria. Application deadline is April 1.

Tapestry Scholarship
The Tapestry Scholarship is offered and awarded by the African-American employees of the Lucas County Juvenile Justice Center. It is available to entering freshmen and continuing UT students who will be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students. To be considered for this need-based scholarship, applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and must have a valid Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file in the Office of Student Financial Aid. First preference will be given to students majoring in criminal justice, social work or sociology.

Scholarship for a full-time entering African-American freshman student majoring in finance or business. Student should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher with demonstrated leadership ability. Scholarship for an entering freshman with a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher and an intent to major in Engineering. Shall be graduates of one of six elementary schools under the Central City Ministries service umbrella: Queen of Apostles, Rosary Cathedral, St. Hyacinth, St. Martin de Porres, St. Elizabeth Seton, and St. Mary. In addition, priority will be given to Hispanic applicants and/or dependents of employees of Mandell Vasquez, Inc. Willard I. Webb III Scholarship Fund
Recipients of this scholarship shall be U.S. citizens from the National City Corporation territories (Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania) who are National City Bank, Northwest employee dependents. Recipients shall be undergraduate students, including entering freshmen, less than 25 years old. Recipient must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher. Financial need, community or campus involvement, and employment will be considered. One typed letter of recommendation from a person familiar with the applicant’s academic abilities is required. Students are encouraged to submit up to two additional letters of recommendation addressing either personal qualities or academic ability. Previous recipients may reapply.

Joseph L. Wolcott Scholarship Fund
Loan for full-time undergraduate students. Applicants must be graduates of Toledo Public High schools, Toledo, Ohio. If a borrower repays one-half the amount borrowed within two years of graduation or termination of full-time college education, the remaining one-half is forgiven. If these terms are not met, the entire loan remains payable with interest.
