What is Playgroup?
- It is a "curriculum" based program for toddlers and preschoolers who are deaf or hard-of-hearing
that combines play, music, story book reading and other developmentally appropriate
and fun activities that provide auditory and language enrichment.
- The playgroup is run by students in the speech-language pathology program at UT under
direct supervision of faculty and staff, including a certified speech-language pathologist
and an audiologist who specialize in pediatric aural (re)habilitation. Teachers of
the hearing impaired and other related professionals also serve as consultants.
- The program includes a parent education/support group as well as a school-age group.
Siblings are welcome to take part in both groups. The ALE programs also sponsor conferences
with nationally known speakers on an annual basis.
