The mission of the Criminal Justice Department of is to improve the human condition; to advance knowledge in criminal justice through excellence in learning, discovery and engagement; and to serve as a student-centered program that promotes the values of diversity, professionalism, integrity, leadership, critical thinking, social justice, and community safety.

The Criminal Justice Department educates students to be critical thinkers who can communicate their thoughts effectively in oral and written form. The criminal justice program familiarizes students with facts and concepts and teaches students to apply this knowledge to related problems and changing situations.
The Criminal Justice Department provides students with the opportunity to learn about the crime, offenders, victims, policing, criminal investigation, law, social justice, corrections, and other criminal justice issues through teaching, research, and service.

Students who complete an undergraduate degree in criminal justice at the University of Toledo are prepared to work in a variety of fields within the criminal justice system, including but not limited to, law enforcement, corrections and community service. Some graduates go on for a law degree and/or masters in criminal justice.
