Dterm Series i

 

With the new Dterm Series i the biggest difference you will notice is that some functions have moved up to the "soft keys."  The soft keys are located at the very top of the phone under the LED display.

Programmable Features
Feature Key This key is used to activate terminal setup functions and to program One-Touch Speed Dial/Feature Keys.
  • Feature+ 1 = Turns microphone on or off. The MIC button lights when microphone is on.
  • Feature+ 2 = Adjusts handset receiver volume on current call. The LCD displays the current volume (LARGE OR SMALL). Press Feature + 2 to alternate.  
  • Feature+ 3 = Selects ringer tone. Currently the system supports 10 different ring tones. After pressing Feature and a 3, continue to press 3 until desired tone is heard, press Feature to set.
  • Feature+ 4 = Adjusts default handset volume. Options are SMALL or LARGE. Press Feature and 4 to change.
  • Feature+ 5 = Activate speakerphone capability.
  • Feature+ 6 = Deactivate speakerphone capability.
  • Feature+ 7 = Turns call indicator lamp on or off for incoming call notification. (If turned off, this lamp will still light to indicate voice mail messaging waiting.
Recall Key Used to terminate established call and reseize dial tone for the next call or feature activation.
Conf This key is used to establish a three-way call.

To Activate:

  • Dial the telephone number of the first individual or announce you will be inviting a third party to the caller.
  • Press the Transfer Key.
  • Dial the telephone number, when third party answers, talk privately before conferencing the original caller.
  • Press the CONF key. All three parties are now connected.

Redial Key

Press the Redial key to activated the redial feature. This key retains the last 5 telephone numbers dialed.

To Activate:

  • Press the Redial key until you see the number you want to call in your LED display.
  • Press the * key to automatically redial the telephone number.
Hold By using this function, and internal or external call can be placed on hold.

To Activate:

  • Ask the caller to hold.
  • Press the HOLD key once.
  • The line (extension line) indicator light blinks on held calls.

To Return to your caller:

  • Lift the handset (if you hung up).
  • Press the blinking line extension key.
  • Call is reestablished with your caller.

To Place a call on Exclusive Hold: (cannot be retrieved from other phones.)

  • Press the HOLD key twice to place the call on exclusive hold.

To Return to your caller:

  • Lift the handset (if you hung up).
  • Press button for held line.
  • Call can be retrieve only from telephone that put it on Exclusive Hold.
Transfer By using this function you can transfer calls to another extension.

To Blind Transfer a Caller:

  • Announce the transfer to the caller.
  • Press the transfer key, caller is placed on Hold.
  • Listen for the Feature Dial tone.
  • Dial the extension you are transferring the caller to; hang up. If you wait on the line for an answer this is known as a Supervised Transfer.

To Return to your Caller:

  • Press the transfer key.

Boss/Secretary Transfer - For secretaries answering the boss's ringing line, use this feature to announce the caller to your Boss.

Secretary:

  • Announce the transfer to the caller.
  • Press the Boss' line again, this establishes a voice call.
  • Announce the call to the Boss.

If the Boss Accepts the Call:
Secretary:

  • Hang up the handset.

Boss:

  • Lift the handset.
  • Depress the flashing line.

If the Boss Denies the Call:

  • Secretary press the Transfer key to return to the caller.

Answer

This key is great for individuals who are responsible for answering more than one line from their telephone.

To Activate:

  • To activate this feature press the Feature key and then the Answer Key - the LED light will remain steady lit red.
  • To deactivate this feature press the Feature key and then the Answer Key - the LED light will go off.
Speaker Button Controls the phones built-in speaker, which can be used for Hands-Free dialing/monitoring. LED on key lights up red when key is in use.
Directory This feature is not available at this time.
Message Enables access to the voice mail system when set as a One-Touch Speed dial.

To Activate:

  • Press the Feature Key.
  • Press the Message Key.
  • Dial 6000.
  • Press the Message Key.
  • Press the Feature Key.
Up/Down Arrows Display Contrast When the phone is idle Press arrow up to brighten or Press arrow down to dim contrast.
Speak/Receiver Volume

Press arrow up to raise volume during a conversation. Press arrow down to lower volume during a conversation.

Ringer Volume  

When the phone is ringing press arrow up to make ringer louder. Press arrow down to make ringer softer.

Soft Keys The buttons beneath the display on your telephone are called "soft keys" because their function changes depending on the mode that your telephone is in at any given time. The current feature will be indicated in the display above each button. Press the Help key, then press desired Soft Key for helpful information about that key. Press the Exit key to exit the Help Program. 
Help Press the Help key, then press desired Soft Key for helpful information about that key.
Exit Press the Exit key to exit the Help program.
OHR/OFF Off Hook Ringing off - in this state pre-programmed subline ringing is activated. If prime line is in use, sublines will have a muted ring.
OHR/ON Off Hook Ringing On - in this state pre-programmed subline ringing is deactivated.
Mute Go off-hook or press speaker key, then press Soft Key. MUTE will flash. In this state, your voice will not be transmitted into the handset, or speaker whichever is in use. Off Hook Ringing On - in this state pre-programmed subline ringing is deactivated.
Call Pick Up

You may answer an incoming call directed to an unattended station within a programmed pick-up group. Contact Telecommunications x4098 to see if this line feature is active on your telephone extension.

To Use:

  • Pick up your handset and press the CPU Soft Key.
MIC Press the Soft Key below "MIC" to activate or deactivate the microphone. The LED will illuminate when MIC is on.
Headset Press the Soft Key below "Headset" to activate or deactivate Headset operation. The primary extension LED will illuminate when headset is on.
Voice This feature only works between Dterm telephones. This feature will not work if the individual dialed is on the telephone. 

To Activate:

  • Pick up the Handset or Press the Speaker Key.
  • Dial the campus extension.
  • Press the Voice Soft Key before the individual answers.
  • The caller will receive a chime tone through the speaker of their phone.
  • You may begin speaking hands free (make sure your MIC is on).

To Deactivate:

  • Hang up the handset.
S&R (Save & Repeat) Stores a number for future one-time redial.

To save a number:

  • After dialing desired number.
  • Press S&R Soft Key.
  • Number is stored temporarily.

To redial:

  • Press S&R Soft Key. Number is erased after you redial.

To verify:

  • Do not lift handset.
  • Press S&R Soft Key.
  • Displays indicates temporarily stored telephone number.
CB (Callback) This feature allows you to request a "call back" if you encounter a busy University extension.

To Set Call Back feature if line is busy:

  • Press CB Soft Key.
  • Hear confirmation set tone.
  • Hang up.
  • When BOTH telephones become idle, your telephone will ring. (Display indicates CB and the extension number being called.)
  • Lift Handset (or press speaker).
  • Call will ring until called party answers.

To Cancel Call Back request before ringing:

  • Lift handset.
  • Press Call Back soft key.
  • Hang up.

Note: Only one Call Back request can be set to or from any extension at a time. Additional attempts will be indicated by a fast busy signal. Call Back is automatically canceled if the telephone that set the Call Back doesn't answer within approximately three rings.

Lamps Call Indicator Lamp Lamp at top corner of display flashes when a call is received. Lamp lights steadily when a voice mail messages has been left.
LCD Display Provides Dterm activity information, date, time and Soft Key operation.
LED Some function keys have a built-in Light-Emitting Diode (LED) that lights or flashes according to the activity of that function key. 
MIC (Microphone) Lamp Lamp displays the status of the built-in microphone used for hands free operation.
Call Forwarding Forward All

The Forward All feature (FDA) allows the telephone user to forward all calls to the Voice Mail system or any appropriate extension. If you set this feature your telephone will not ring, all calls will immediately be routed to the designated extension.

To Activate this feature:

  • Pick up the handset, listen for dial tone.
  • Dial * (star key) 1 and listen for the Special Dial Tone. (almost sounds like a busy signal)
  • Dial the desired extension number that you wish to forward all your calls to.
  • Listen for the Steady Set Tone. (will be one steady stream of tone)

To Cancel Forward All:

  • Pick up the handset, listen for dial tone.
  • Dial # (pound key) 1.
Forward Busy

The Forward Busy feature (FDB) permits calls to a busy telephone extension to be immediately forwarded to voice mail or another appropriate telephone extension. If you set this feature your callers will not get a busy signal when dialing your extension, all calls will immediately be routed to the number you have designated.

ToActivate this feature:

  • Pick up the handset, listen for dial tone.
  • Dial * (star key) 2 and listen for the Special Dial Tone. (almost sounds like a busy signal)
  • Dial the desired extension number that you wish to forward all your calls to.
  • Listen for the Steady Set Tone. (will be one steady stream of tone)

ToCancel Forward All:

  • Pick up the handset, listen for dial tone.
  • Dial # (pound key) 2.
Forward No Answer

The Forward No Answer feature (FDN) permits calls to an unattended extension to be forwarded to an appropriate extension after a programmed ringing interval. If you set this feature your telephone will ring 4-5 times at your desk, if you do not pick up the handset your call will be routed to the extension you have designated.

To Activate this feature:

  • Pick up the handset, listen for dial tone.
  • Dial * (star key) 8 and listen for the Special Dial Tone. (almost sounds like a busy signal)
  • Dial the desired extension number that you wish to forward all your calls to.
  • Listen for the Steady Set Tone. (will be one steady stream of tone)

ToCancel Forward All:

  • Pick up the handset, listen for dial tone.
  • Dial # (pound key) 8.
Speed Dial

This feature may be available on your Dterm is you have lineprogrammable feature feys that are available (no programmed number.)

To store numbers for speed dialing:

  • Do not lift handset.
  • Press the Feature Key.
  • Press the Speed dial button to be programmed.
  • Dial telephone number or system feature code to be stored.
  • Press Speed dial button again.
  • Press the Feature Key.
  • Display indicates SPD SET.

To Place a call using a Speed Dial or One Touch Button:

  • Press the Speed Dial programmed button to initiate the call, this will activate the Speaker function.
  • Pick up the handset to talk privately.
Extended Speed Dial This feature is available on your Dterm and is programmed by a Telephone Services technician. Each Dtermtelephone has a speed dial 'bin' of 10 (ten) numbers.

To Program a Number into Extended Speed Dial:

  • Lift the handset or press the Speaker button.
  • Dial *9.
  • Enter the Speed Dial location 0-9 that you are programming.
  • Dial the number, either on or off Campus, local or long distance such as 4098 or 9.1.419.1.555.1212.
  • Wait for "SPEED SET" to appear in your display. Note - this takes a few minutes - be patient.

To Place a call using the Extended Speed Dial:

  • Lift the handset or press the Speaker button.
  • Dial #9.
  • Enter the Speed Dial Bin Number you programmed above 0-9.
  • Number is automatically dialed.
