Biographical Sketch

James Brower, a graphic designer in Toledo and throughout the United States, was born in 1914. Throughout his long career, Mr. Brower designed catalogs and other marketing materials for Owens-Illinois, Inc. for almost 60 years, beginning in the field in 1934 and retiring in 1997.  Mr. Brower moved to the Toledo community in 1943 to continue his graphic design work, which he had been doing in West Virginia. 

Today, Mr. Brower continues to do artistic work, now focusing on water colors.  Mr. Brower has shown his work in the Toledo area and nationally, winning award throughout the United States for his work.

Scope and Content Note

The collection is comprised of catalogs, fliers, and envelope “stuffers” created by James Brower during his career with Owens-Illinois.  The items are arranged in alphabetical order by folder, with the contents of each folder arranged chronologically.
