Historical Sketch

The Center for Choice has provided abortion, family planning, and women’s health care services in northwest Ohio, southeast Michigan, and Indiana since 1983. The facility provides abortion services up to 24 weeks and medical abortions (non-surgical) up to 7 weeks. The Center for Choice is licensed by the State of Ohio and is a member of the National Abortion Federation. The clinic also provides information and support about issues involving sexuality, lifestyle, and reproductive health. The Center for Choice believes that each woman has a right to sexual freedom and choice. Carol Dunn is the president and founder of the clinic. The first location of the clinic in Toledo was on North Huron Street, and it later relocated to 22nd Street.

The abortion issue has been controversial since the Supreme Court upheld the right to an abortion in its Roe v. Wade decision. The Center for Choice over the years has experienced both violent and non-violent protestors outside its clinic. The clinic encourages its patients not to engage any of the protestors and to ignore them while they are entering the building.
