Internal Admission and Reinstatement Procedures
Summer/Fall 2013 Deadline is April 12, 2013
We want to help you be successful in your academic endeavors and are committed to assisting you in achieving your educational goals. You are required to complete the Internal Admission and Reinstatement Procedure before admission to the Department of Exploratory Studies (formerly Gateway Programs) if you are: considering readmission to UT, are on academic probation in another UT college, or are returning after suspension.
Start to re-focus on school and begin contemplating the academic rigor required to
be successful. With this said, there are four steps you need to take in order to
be considered for admission.
The Department of Exploratory Studies Internal Admission and Reinstatement Procedure consist of the following steps:
1.) Appeal letter
This letter must be typed in Microsoft Word and attached to an email using your UT Outlook email account (or your personal email if you no longer have access to your UT Outlook account). Your letter should include a proper greeting and closing. The letter should address steps that you will take to significantly improve your academic performance upon your return to school. Your appeal letter must also include an assessment of your academic goals. You are welcome to use the My Goal/Action Plan guide for assistance in setting your goals. Your appeal letter should be one page in length. Re-evaluate your priorities and consider the value of a college degree. You must include your complete mailing address and phone number(s) in your letter. Your letter will not be accepted if it does not contain your contact information.
2.) Academic Assignment and Quiz
The advisers have prepared several videos to help you understand the academic processes here at UT. Please visit http://www.utoledo.edu/llss/des/advising/index.html and view the following six videos:
- How to Calculate Your GPA
- What Are Incompletes and Grade Deletions
- Adds, Drops, and Withdrawals
- What is Probation and Suspension
- What is the Dean’s List
- How to Declare a Major – Next Steps
The videos will help you answer questions on the Internal Admission and Reinstatement Quiz.
You must score 25 out of 29 possible points on the quiz to be considered for admission.
3.) Email all materials (appeal letter and quiz) to ExploratoryStudies@utoledo.edu.
You must complete and submit your letter and quiz by April 12, 2013 for consideration for Summer or Fall 2013 reinstatement. Please do not wait to submit your materials until the last day. The Department
of Exploratory Studies Academic Review Committee will review your reinstatement request
within three business days of submission. The sooner you submit your materials, the
sooner the Academic Review Committee will be able to make a decision as to your reinstatement.
4.) ALL holds must be cleared by April 12, 2013.
An application for the Department of Exploratory Studies Admission cannot be considered until all student account holds are cleared. Some examples of holds that will block your reinstatement and class registration are: Past due balance holds; Collections holds; Disciplinary holds, and various fines such as lab or library fines.
In addition, there will not be an opportunity to retake your quiz if you fail it or revise your letter after the deadline, so it is in your best interest to submit your materials well in advance of the deadline.
If your admission is approved, you will be notified via your UT email account, which is the University’s primary method of communication with you. If you need help accessing your UT email, please contact IT at 419-530-2400. Then, you will be required to contact one of the Gateway Program’s academic advisers to discuss your Conditional Enrollment and the best Academic Path for YOU! Call 419.530.1250 to schedule an appointment. You will also be required to complete a Conditional Enrollment Contract with your academic adviser.
To continue enrollment after the first conditional term, the Academic Review Committee considers grades in all courses for the required GPA. All grades, including Withdrawals, Incompletes, and No Credits in classes, will be considered and will have an impact on the final decision for you to continue enrollment at UT. Therefore, it is important to meet with your academic adviser throughout the term or contact him/her at the first sign of difficulty.
We recommend you visit: www.studygs.net. Here you will find many topics to help you with college success, including reading skills, preparing for tests, taking tests, time management, classroom participation, writing basics, and others. This is a great resource for you to use.
You will also be required to complete a Conditional Enrollment Contract with your
academic adviser.
