My educational background encompasses courses in composition and rhetorical theory, history, and practice; methodology; political rhetoric; and early and contemporary American literature.

University of Louisville. Ph.D. Rhetoric and Composition (2004)

  • Dissertation: Think Before You Ink:  Reflecting on Teacher Response

Slippery Rock University. M.A. English (2000)

  • Thesis: “Colored” Cardboard: An Analysis of Stereotypes and Popular Culture in the Pre-World War II Horrors of War

University of Pittsburgh. B.A.  Communications and Rhetoric (1997)

Current Research

My research interests focus on different aspects of rhetoric and composition. First, I am interested in issues related to writing assessment, specifically assessment that occurs in the classroom (responding to student writing, grading, portfolios, conferencing, etc) and methods of large-scale assessment (placement, exit testing, standardized testing, etc).  My research also focuses on graduate students serving as writing program administrators, literacy issues, writing-across-the-curriculum, using popular culture in writing classrooms, and working class studies.
