CeDER draws from strength in the areas of metabolism, whole animal endocrine and cardiovascular physiology, insulin and hormone action, gene regulation, genetics, immunology, adipogenesis, and lipid and islet cell biology to establish research programs in obesity, fatty liver disease and diabetes. An integral part of the center is to identify the basic mechanisms of these related diseases, and to focus on the integration of signals from bones, brain, gut and the immune system in the regulation of glucose homeostasis.
