Certifications: Fully paid certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support and Basic Life Support during
residency
Computer Service: Ready Access (no charge) to Internet, Medline, Science Citation Index and institutional network.
Credit Union: The UTMUO Credit Union offers loans at favorable interest rates, dividends on savings and payroll deductions
Day Care: University of Toledo Early Learning Center is located near the Medical Center and is available for children 18 months to 5
years. Participants pay an operating expense fee.
Disability Insurance: Provided without charge to the residents.
Educational Conferences: Chief residents will have the opportunity to attend a national conference of their choice. All residents who have a paper or poster accepted for presentation will have support from the department to attend the conference.
Employee Assistance: The University of Toledo Employee Assistance Program provides confidential and professional assistance to employees and dependents
experiencing problems.
Exercise Facility: For a nominal fee, use of the on-campus Morse Center and swimming pool is available for self and family.
Health Insurance: University resident physicians are eligible to participate in comprehensive major medical and dental plans. A partial premium
payment is required. Residents may choose between single or family coverage and contributions are payroll deducted. Optical
and prescription plans are also available.
Holidays: The University of Toledo observes ten paid holidays per year. 2009-2010 holidays are as follows:

Lab Coats: Interns are provided with three white coats and all other residents will receive two new coats per year with their names embroidered.
All coats will be laundered without charge.
Life Insurance: A ten thousand dollar policy is provided without cost to the residents. Optional dependent life insurance is available and
requires a minimum monthly contribution.
Malpractice/Liability Insurance: Full coverage of professional liability insurance as long as the resident is functioning within the escope of the residency
program.
Meals: All meals will be charged at a discounted rate. Meals tickets are provided to each resident when on in-house call
Medical Training License: The annual license renewal fee is provided by the Department of Surgery
Parking: Residents may park in lots designated specifically for employees
Professional Membership Fees: Yearly membership fees are provided to the American College of Surgeons and attendance at the Toledo Surgical Society.
Resident Activities: Social activities are organized throughout the year by the Graduate Medical Office and Alumni office of the University
Textbook: Each intern is provided with the textbook that the residency is currently using
Tuition Reimbursement: College of Graduate Studies Tuition Waived
Sick Leave: 15 days annually Maternity and Paternity leave
Vacations: PGY 1 3 weeks PGY 2-5 4 weeks There is a special schedule during Christmas and New Years to give each resident a break of 5 days.
Please note that neither vacation nor sick time accumulates from one year to the next.
